I am kind of happy that the liberals did not get a majority coz they needed to be reminded that theres a limit to the crap people will take and the scandals, the corruption and the unaccountablity is not going to go unnoticed for long.
I did not want the conservatives to form their own government with a huge majority as well.....at the end of the day its win win situation for people who think like me.

Can you tell me what your expectations of a Tory govt. are? How will you measure their success? Do you have any expecations from them at all or was your desire only to punish the liberals?

I will measure their success against the fullfillment of the promises they will make.
For things that affect me personally elimination of GST and more help for small businesses. if they deliver on these two things for me they would have done a good job..........not great just good
No my desire was not punish the liberals although not a fan of paul martin but since seeing him concede and step down.......I have new found respect for him.....next time I go to vote I wont be confused who I should vote for. My choice has become clear.

Did Harper ever mention elimination of GST? I think he proposed lowering it to 5%. But he would raises taxes. Let me know if you have any "insider" info about GST elimination by the Tories. ;)

I actually liked Martin. He did a great job as a Finance Minister, nobody can dispute that. His misfortune was that he had to clean up the mess made by his predecessor for the duration of his tenure and that left him in a perpetual reactive mode as PM.

Misinformed I was.............he has promised to make it go to 6% and then eventually 5%.

Do you actually believe that..........

This would be like you have the accounts in the house and your wife goes on a spending spree for a number of months and you are unaware.

Possible???I think not.

I have the same impressions about the guy. However, I cannot remember a single time when a governing party in any country was not afffected by one scandal or the other. Its very necessary for a good leader to use all his skills(agression, charisma etc) lead his party out of the dumps. Ultimately its all about spin e.g: Clinton :D .

Chretein could brawl. Paul Martin was too much of a gentleman.
imho.

Agreed. Chretein has the penchant for melodrama (remember the golf balls?) Martin's just really practical guy and a gentleman.

Spin only takes you so far though e.g. Clinton. Without that scandal I can't think of a single reason why Gore wouldn't have been president.
