Atleast the Conservatives are honest about it. The Liberals pretend to be friends of immigrants.

I agree...

But I still don't think that's any reason to vote Conservative either. When they CLEARLY state (As someone mentioned in this threat already...) that they are not happy with immigration or immigrants, rather. Why would I vote for someone who doesn't like 'me'? That is the stupidest thing I've ever heard!

So that leaves me but one choice.... Aah!

Conservative leader Stepen Harper has became sweet talker. That worries me. He is behaving in similar manner Dalton McGuinty behaved before Ontario election. After the election, throw some money here and some money there to keep everyone happy.

On the other hand, I do not want Liberal to have easy go and I do not like Jack being unimpressive.

I would like to see Parliament to be in minority only to get the maximum out of these suckers.

This is a good thread because im also in a quandry about whom to vote for. Conservatives seem to be all about deportation otherwise dont mention a lot about Immigration. NDP wants to put a one sponsership per lifetime limit on citizens and PR's (say if you want to sponser both ur parents you cant..just one!) and Liberal..well... *sigh*

any thoughts on how to decide?

I would give conservatives a chance. We know what liberals can do and we do not like it . They have produced a surplus (by overtaxing us) , increased taxes and immigration is taking 5 years.

I would give conservatives a chance and see what they can do .

Would not vote for NDP as I heard once jack layton saying that they would increase taxes to pay into the healthcare. I am tired of taxes being increased in this country ..

I was actually thinking about voting for the tories. Until I got a pamphlet in my mail from their local candidate. It had a full paragraph on how they would work hard to make sure that the bible makes it back to our classrooms. And that did it for me.

The last thing I want for my kids is to have religion mixed with politics or education. The MAIN reason for moving from the States and living in Canada is steering clear of right-wing agendas. Harper's all sweet-talk now and is basically saying exactly what everybody wants to hear (just like any politician would), but the "let's make everyone happy" statements sound suspicious to me...

And who's to say that the tories will have less corruption, which is the major issue dogging the libs? Look at the states again! This was Bush's biggest promise when he came to power "Clean and ethical govt". Yeah Right!!! Look at the number of republican scandals right now involving the top players...

I'm not willing to "try out" a tory govt. just for the heck of it, too much potential of it backfiring on me.

Disclaimer : This is my personal opinion, not that of Canadiandesi!

The last time conservatives were in power we got the GST and from what I heard mortgage interest rates were around 18% ! They also may reduce funding to social services .

I agree blue lobster that its important not to mix religion with politics..but are the conservatives the only party that do? Growing up I remember the lords prayer in school and of course god save the queen :)

I wouldnt have a problem if it was brought back .. because it wasnt a big deal for me.... but bible study in public schools...no..thats a bit too much.

Producing a surplus is not entirely a bad thing! Resultant interest rates across the economy have been lower, if you own a house and had a mortgage over the past few years, your savings on interest should have offset a significant portion of those 'higher taxes'.

If you are counting on tax cuts from the Tories, the immediate cuts that they have promised are a wash anyway. They'll roll back the Grits income tax cuts for the 1% GST cut that they have promised. That's the same nickels and dimes.

If you think that's going to get better with the Tories in power, that's wishful thinking at its best. The Tories primary constituency is a bunch that views immigrants as a threat. One of their first targets will be parents immigration.

I reckon we will see what 'they can do' in the not too distant future.

Apart from the disaster of the premier in BC who preceded Ujjal Dosanjh, the repercussions of the NDP government in Ontario are felt even today, about 15 years on. If you look up statistics that are publicly available, a significant portion of Ontario's $100billion odd in debt was caused by deficits from their tenure.
