Hi Fellow CDs,
I never realised the stakes until I browsed this article...
http://ww1.mid-day.com/news/city/2006/january/129669.htm
Would welcome your opinions whether we should continue renting $1 videos from local grocery / video shops and let this market grow or should we follow the legitimate path...
Personally, I wouldnt mind spending more for a legitimate copy though I have issues with thier over pricing as well as late releases...(thats no excuse for opting for pirated copies). But I always tempted to go for the pirated copy since they come out sooner than the original (and cheaper too) and cannot wait to load onto my video..
Wouldnt it be better if the original prints were available as soon as the movie is released?? (who would go to the theater??...)
I m confused

It is a matter of individual choice, but I always prefer watching movies in theatre. It is totally a different experience, which I do not think, even Bose home theatre systems or big screen TVs can mimic. I still regret missing the Matrix, Kill Bill and Lagaan on big screen. Paying $15 to enjoy "Paheli" on big screen was a "paisa vasool" experience.
Regarding pirated prints, I used to rent $1 VHS before, but now, I bought DVD player and threw away my VCR. And the guy who rents Hindi DVDs near my place has such a big attitude, that I stopped renting Hindi DVDs. Now I only rent English movies from Rogers.
Also, availability of Hindi movies on DVD is also an issue. I prefer to see good moves in theatres. And the DVD wallah will only stock Shahrukh or John Abraham movies. If I ask him for a Nagesh Kuknoor movie or some Bachhan oldies, he think, I come from some alien planet
