hey CDs
i need ur opinion on these issues
which all model of cellphones (gsm) would be all right to bring to Canda? i have Nokia 2600 and 3100 wud they be okk? And if i wish to buy a new cellphone it would be intelligent to buy which model and from where, India or Canada?
also, for carrying foreign exchange which bank should i preferrably deal with...or would anyone do fine? If i carry more than a minimum amount would it be an issue at the Indian airport or Canadian airport...

Your cell phone has to be tri-band. I am not sure if the Nokia models you have are tri-band.
In my opinion it does not matter where you buy the cell phone unless you want a high end one with FM radio, cam and the works. If that is what you want I suggest get a good Nokia model from India. Surprisingly Nokia is not a very popular choice here.
But remember the monthly plans are very high here. They would not just compare with the Orange and Airtel plans. So many hidden charges over here. A plan of $25 would make you pay about $40 after the taxes and various charges.

Get a draft from HDFC, ICICI, SBI - whoever gives the best rate. Do not even think of opening a Hello Canada account with ICICI bank. There are enough posts on this forum to tell how much we all 'appreciate' ICICI bank in Canada.
Get some TC's for the expenses of the first few weeks.

i'd check with the tri-band technology... but any company or plans one might suggest?

I would strongly suggest you to land here and than decide over the plans that might be best suited to your personal needs . It really varies and makes a huge difference on monthly bills . You can also chose the provider based on the areas you want to be covered . Different providers have different coverages ( I mean better signals in some particular areas ) . My personal experience is "Telus" is the best when it comes to service but it's not GSM . It is based on CDMA tech . I get good coverage even in remote areas .

Perfect response. If I may add, it won't hurt to get a GSM fone from India. Don't get something too fancy and spend too much. It could always come in handy in the future.
