Reviving this old thread once more , does anyone know of stores selling good futon mattresses ?

Hiren ~ have you switched on to the Sultan mattress and if yes , do you recommend them v/s a good futon mattress .

I have zeroed down on a hard wood platform bed at a Chinese store (close to DQ Mississauga - Dundas and having all unique rosewood furniture) , mattress remains next . Thanks .

I still use the spring mattress in our bed (due to height of the bed frame), but we have SULTAN mattress in our kids beds. I do lie down occasionally (mid afternoon naps on weekends) on those and have never felt more comfortable. Whenever I do change our bed in the future, it is going to be SULTAN with appropriate base...

I have seen Futon mattress at my friends place, they are fluffly and bulky initially but flatten eventually in a few months. The filling they have inside is not cotton, but synthetic yarn which (IMO) is not good for comfort and skin contact. But then, thats my experience with 1 mattress I saw, it could not be with all brands/varieties..

Hope this helps.

Hiren

hey guys let me share my opinion'

I used to have sevre back pain way back in 2001/2002

Now it is almost nil- On a scale of 1 to 10 it is 0.05

Lets not attribute back pain to just to a mattress. analyse your daily activity , do you have repetitive movemnts or sitting for very long hours ( especially IT People)which strain your back. Just in case there are some jobs which strain ones back , are you trying to strengthen your back by doing exercises.

And finally , my advice choose a matress which is not very hard. Bascic rule .... matreess when you slle on should support your arch on yoour back. not leave space betwwen your back and matress. Hard matressess always leave space between your back arch and matress. I woulsd suggest medim plush matreess would be fone.

As an update we brought a good hard wood platform bed ... put a ply wood sheet on top of slats to make it flat surfaced and topped it with an all cotton futon mattress which provides a wonderful sleep ....

The futon mattress costed us $250/- (Futon Shop Bloor Bathurst ) and the bed $600/- ....... I can't complain ...

Mattress has nothing to do with back problem. My advise to you is visit orthopaedic doctor and ask him to show excercise to overcome back pain. There is excercise which you have to do in the morning and evening just 5-10 mts excercise very easy. My doctor showed this excercise to me and initially I did and due to second pregnancy I discontinued it and since past 3 years couldn't do excercise as suggested by doctor still no pain. Of course, I use orthopaedic bed which I got on factory sale $150+$60 spring box.Try this bed. I bought it from Gary 416 319 8851.
