But for the sake of arguement he did say "most desi's" not "all" :D

Hey..im not a programmer..or science graduate or good at math :D

however 'most' means what? 1/2? 1/3? 2/3? 3/4? 99% which is still statistically impossible to know unless one has spent their time in quantitative research

:p

well to make it easy, there are around 14-15 desi's who post regularly here. Only 3-4 like TK, Jasmeek (for sure), myself and maybe 1-2 more are not happy to change. Rest are changing or have changed. So that makes it around 35%.
Now that certainly doesn't make it in the category of "most". So 65% are changing.

Include Sankaracharya too in the list of people "Not ready to change". You can include Ash20.
Many others are of the same opinion but not ready to post their views here. Most of the people to whom i have spoken on the phone and who are CD members agree to my postings.
Anyway, i am not trying to set some laws in stone. People , esp. "Desi's" do what their mind dictates and will always do anything that benefits them. There is nothing like free charity to Canada or its people.

When I said Live your own life, I meant to say do what you like. I am speaking from personal experience.

All my school life, i lived life what was expected of my family. We lived in a then, small town. My sisters were teachers and highly respected in town. Worst, my sister was a teacher in my school. My sisters were rank-holders at state level. So being the youngest in the family, there were lot of expectations from me by the society and hence sometimes by parents. While I was in school, i never made any decision for myself. All decisions were made for me right from clothing, schools, colleges though my likes and interests were kept in mind.

I broke free of all these things when we moved away from the town and my sisters too had got married.

I started the process of being totally independent when I moved to Middle East and now I can say I am totally independent. I listen to my sisters but do what I think is right. Now the tables have turned in some cases. I advise them too because they find what I say makes sense.

To some extent, desis do tend to live somebody else's life mainly what the parents want them to do including what to study. But once you are in Canada, the circumstances in India and canada are totally different so listen to them but do what you think is right for you in your environment. Simialrly, donot impose your life on your kids because your parents did it and your life turned out nice.

a) the people who love canada & those who are staying here.
b) the people who are unhappy about their decision of coming here.

Why can't we respect both parties? Both of the parties can be right considering their experience of canada.

Can you please give me a link to those posts where people are against somebody's decision to return to India?

Nobody has to like Canada. But for people who do like Canada, when someone says "everything in Canada sucks", you're bound to get some opposing comments.

And I totally agree, both parties should respect eachother and the arguing should be civil.

I grew up with a lot of 2nd gens whose parents strongly controlled what they did, who their friends were, where they could go, what they wore etc.

Its not just desi's, but people I have met from different backgrounds, things I have read and just go through the multitudes of message boards on the internet and you will see that expectations, guilt, fear and obligations abound in families all over the world.

Thanks for ur post.
