Being in reasearch, I know very well what you are trying to say.
I take such results with a pinch of salt. Come on, watch late night talk shows and you will hear about such reports from "Conan o Brien" or "Jay Leno"....
That being said, I can argue the same thing about women. Of 'cos society does not like to reveal such stories about women. The entire facade will disappear.
SUch a scenario was presented in a film made in the 1990's
Disclosure *ing :- Demi Moore, Michael Douglas, Donald Sutherland
Of cos, if I had a wish, I would like to possess powers acquired by Mel Gibson in
"What women want"

I dont get a chance to watch late night tv.
I dont think the research provides any substantial proof - to generalize it to a particular population or world male population.
What do you research?

You don't need high fangled research to tell you this. If you read Blink.....by Malcolm Gladwell he has several similar examples..........apparently we (yes including all of us) make decisions sometimes without even being conscious of what impacts our decision. In the book he has an example where he says that 90% of CEOs in America are white and over 5'10" in height. The only exception being the CEO of American express who is black and 5' 6". Now what does height have to do with being a CEO. But everyday people are being assessed based on their outward appearance not just men being swayed by attractive women.

I have only 2 cents to contribute, not a cent more, not a cent less ;-)
From my experience in india at mid professional level and lower professional level, Men tend to get exited and make irrational decsions when women are there no matter how ugly they are nor how dressed they are.
Men tend to show bias when women are there and fromwhat i heard it is true for top management people too. It is a matter of Superiority complex and Ego when being in a room with women and men.
I found that many draftsmen in our office expressly exited when talking to drafswomen and male Architects expressly exited when talking to female architects. They males tend to make more jokes to impress the females.
I remember stories of a VC of a university frequently visiting prostitutes and well as an IAS office in Karnataka showing bias for women as his marriage had soured. We also had a manager who was surrounded by only women and he gave leave to women but never to men who asked him. He also used to drop women in his car to around their house. We all assumed that he would have a good time talking to her during the ride. We also had a stingy architect in Chennai (in his early 50's) who used to buy draftswomen sarees (he was a stingy guy). He also had a mirror arranged in such a way that he can see architectsworking in the studio below without the female architect/s head being seen. The female architect's canot see him watching them unless they stoop down and see the mirror. I know many female architects who worked with him and also a female architect who quit b'cos of this mirror. He also fired a dedicated tea boy for spilling slightly tea on a Minister's architect daughter (she complained and though she did not hold the tea cup properly , the boss fired this dedicated guy to please the girl). Students of Anna University and REc Trichy (Architects) know who this individual is.
I donot have that much professional experience in Canada so i canot comment about Canadians. My boss (as i see) is a bit more jovial when talking to young women of our office. Donot know if this jovialness is reflected in their salary.
TK
Sidenote : I agree with My2Cents 100% WRT an Indian context. Not experience enough for Canadian context.
Sidenote 2 : All incidents mentioned are True. Therefore CD readers are advised Caution before they throw brick bats on me. and
Sidenote 3 :Please note that i also know people who are not biased WRT women. They may just be slightly biased
(as seen in the following example)-> for e.g. An architect may tend to hire a woman to work in his small professional office, if he knows that she already has kids and is not planning to have anymore kids since he knows that women generally tend to stay at one place and donot have as much ambition to come up as a man. Besides women are happy with little salary. All this is India in 1994-96 and for architecture profession only. So this Architect who has hired her actually shows no prejudice but is only cunning and seeks to improve his buisiness.
This situation actually happened in the office that i worked. I was there for 15 months and thislady was there for 13 years before me and 5 years after me. The salary that she got in 1995 was rs. 7000 consolidated. She woked from 9 am to 3 pm and (without the knowledge of the boss) in another office from 3:30 pm till 5:30 pm. In the other office she took her job home , sometimes.I was getting rs. 3000 or 3500 at that time. She quit in 2000 to start her own home office and did mainly houses and small interiors apart from renovations, additions/alterations.
