WORK PERMIT FOR ACCOMPANYING MOTHER OF MINOR STUDENT
My minor daughter has been granted student visa for 3 years to do high school in Canada. I have been given a visitor's visa and on arrival at Canada, been granted permission to stay in Canada for 3 years as accompanying family member(mother) of my child.I have also successfully completed my medical test in India and this is also stamped in my passport.
I want to know whether I am entitled to apply for work permit like other accompanying family member of international students eg. spouse, children etc. who are permitted to do so?If so, how does one go about it?
Can someone guide me in this regard
Hello Ruma,
You are not eligible to apply for a work permit as an accompanying family member of a student. Only spouse or common law partner of a student can apply for a work permit.
Although there is an exception in your case; you might know that international students are allowed to work on campus (and now with fulfillment of certain conditions off campus also), but your daughter is a minor and on campus employment will be almost impossible to find on the school premises. Highlighting this fact, you can apply for a work permit; the immigration guys are allowed to make exceptions in certain cases, so you might get lucky.
Applying for work permit is easy, just go to this webpage, it has links to the application guide and the forms required for the application.
