Hello
My first post.
I have already filed as a skilled immigrant end of last year, got my file no. recently.
Acc. to them, will take atleast 3-4 yrs still.
But I have got news of Canada's changes in Student Visa policy...seems if u do a 2 yrs course as an international student, u get a 3 yr work permit, straight, without any job offer letter, and u can work even outside ur field.
Am thinking of taking this up, instead of being here and waiting for 4-5 yrs, why not upgrade my education there, with no tension of having to return after studying. 3 yrs work permit is a good thing to gain Canadian work experience, which might help with my PR also...
Please comment. If anyone else has any further info abt this...
I read all previous posts...One thing became clear...before this new rule...it was not a problem if a PR applicant applies for a student visa.
Pls correct me if I have got it wrong.
Thanks in advance.
We don't have any information about you nor an inkling as to the materials in your files that you have provided in your application. You have retained a consultant who knows all about you and your success in this application submitted. If we are to provide you with assistance, we have to have all of the information and then some to give you proper guidance.
All I can say is see the total score you have as of this date. See where you can improve your scores, such as TOEFL and Languages, such as FRENCH and also seek an employer over the net and see if you can obtain an employment with them and arrange for one. These are the fields that will push you up higher in the selection process.
BUT, you all have to wait for a long long period from now on as the numbers are increasing in the back log and wait times are getting longer too. So, your idea to get into an education stream and move on from there is an excellent idea. Since you have a file number already you will not have much difficulties in obtaining a fast visa, and get to find a seat in one of the Universities in September of this year, if you have other criteria met. The seats are getting taken fast, so get on it as soon as you can.
First get a seat in the University and land here for the studies and then move on. Once you are here you will have all of the access to the information on Permits and other materials that you are trying to obtain. Things are hazy as I see now and I don't see this current Political Party hanging in there for long. (That is my educated guess) Take an year at a time and move on from there.
Talk to your consultant too. Good Luck.
Freddie.
Side Note : Here is an article on the advantages of a Student Visa:

Thanks a lot for the link...it is a recent update. Though it also refers to a point that not all educational institution might be eligible for this new 3 yr work permit rule...I am trying to follow it up with the consultants...who incidentally are also concerned about the political situation there and the implications...
About my file, I am eligible for immigration under Federal Skiled Worker category, have 72 points or so. You are right, I can work on my French meanwhile.
I have already selected a course and applied online today...Centennial college..but am applying to few more too..for Sep. intake...
My only concern now is ..I am a planner, but the courses i am applying for are not actually planning , though can be linked a bit logically. Would it make a difference in either student visa or,more importantly, PR?
If one has already a file number, does one need to impress upon the student visa officer during the interview that one is going to return after study, proof of emotional ties in homeland and so on ...? It is quite clear that I am applying for a student visa to stay on there for the PR!
Anyway, thanks for the info. This sure is a good site for people like me.
