Excellent response.
There are many deficiencies in the system and barriers.

I agree that there is subtle discrimation in Canada. I have faced it few times. In one of my jobs, I was able to do jobs without training which local Canadians were unable to do after soending 3 months in US in training. So they decided to take approval for hiring me from Head office. This is a fortune 500 company. The H.O has lots of rules in place to ensure that there is no descrimination. I was called by management and told that they were in the process of getting approval. I came to know that they did get the approval for the position. But in the meantime the secreatay of the big boss decided she did not want to be secretary anymore and was kind of given my position to her. Their reasoning, I was a new immigrant, I am not going to be able to get a job so they could keep me on temp position and get the job done while position was officially offered to this secretary. However, I was taking interviews and got not one but two offers. They never thought I was that smart enough, after all I had just landed in Canada and had not completed even 3 months. So when after 2 months I gave my resignation, they were shocked as they needed me desparately. They offered me the job but I declined and never looked back.

Even in the IT field there is a descrimination at the time of downsizing. If they have to fire, they will fire a desi with CA, CGA, CPA, or MBA but retain goras with only university oe school degree.

But again all the above applies to Canada and not US. In the US, for the same company the biggest boss was Indian IIT gard. All those in Canada who took decision to downsize reported to thsi Indian guy.

whats the point guys if u wanna start that old story again, so I quit from this thread..........
I was talking bout my experience, so might ur experience is different from me. and TK is right in saying his point with the example of architectures. but they are in the labor jobs TK. and I was talking of white collar jobs, so I guess if u want to be architecure engg, then u might have to do it here. unless u have done it from a renowned univ in any part of world. or ur luck is with u.....

anyway it is all personal opinion and I hope no one will start using foul languages over here, like before. as I can smell that this thread is going to same old stories.

Thank you all for your insights into the subject of the "Canadian experience".

Duncan I liked your equation on the Canadian Experience :-). But heres my humble opinion on the components of your equation.

1) Canadian study: My degree in the US is valid in Canada and vice versa. There are Canadians in the US who have degrees in the same field from Canada working in the US. Talk about double standards! if indeed what you are saying is true.

2) Canadian work experience: thats a global phenomenon "work experience" ,but it would be strange if that were expected from fresh graduates for entry level jobs and internships.

3) Language skills: Its insane, if you are competent they should hire you. Yes the so called "fit factors" like language skills maybe taken into consideration, but with all due respect, I think we desis even write papers and spell better than some of the so called native english speakers. India too has one of the largest English speaking populations. Maybe we have an Indian accent but thats alright........thats what makes us unique. Accents in various part of the US vary, then there is the canadian accent that my american colleagues make fun of the "eh's and about's" . Who can forget the Irish, the aussies, the scottish accents....the list goes on.

Bottomline: if the prospective employer can understand you clearly you should be hired.

Anyway I hate to keep rambling away...time will tell (8 months to be precise) if the so called "Canadian Experience" is going to affect me or not. Good luck to all of you!

Whatever i said, you donot have to take personally. I am narrating the truth the way I faced it. I donot hate Canada or India. I love both the countries. There are certain things that are good in India and there are certain things that are good in Canada. There is nothing wrong in admitting what is wrong. That is the first step for improving. Again, these are my experiences and my opinion. Somebody else's could be different based on their experience. After all, isn't this the place for opinions, experiences and help.

Duncan,
I am also quiting from this thread so that the old story does not go on. Anyways, my job right now is sqeezing me and i donot think that i can ever reply for 2 or 3 weeks from now.
And every immigrant who comes in the points system is a White collared person in the country of his origin and so i am also talking of White colleared jobs only.
TK
