Has anyone applied for PIO for their children recently at VFS? Please advise what documents they need. Their checklist says citizenship card etc but if child is born here, then there is only birth certificate, no cit card etc

They are asking for citizenship card and citizenship certificate of parent(s). Also you will need to provide Indian passport, PR and landing papers of at least one parent (to prove Indian origin).

You can apply for citizenship card for child through CIC if you want but VFS/Indian Consulate is not asking for that (even CIC does not seem to be too keen to issue that since Canadian birth certificate is enough).

I was preparing my daughter's application for PIO and just read on VFS's website this morning that effective 22nd June applicants need to submit their PIO application at Consulate General of India Toronto (365 Bloor Street East, 7th Floor Toronto, ON M4W 3L4). VFS will NOT be accepting applications for PIO. CGI's website still says PIO applications need to be submitted to VFS. What is going on? This is so confusing and waste of time for applicants....

They are accepting PIO applications at VFS. I was there just yesterday.

I would like to know how soon do we get the PPs and PIO back from them? The lady at the counter told me that they are authorized to say 4-6 week only but (off the record) generally the PIOs for Children with both parents born in India is processed faster - about 10-12 days. We are planning a US trip next month and dont want to give away all the PP if we are not getting them back soon...

Also, it is adviced to enclose photocopy of PPs of BOTH parents with PIO application of child born in Canada. The PP pages needed are the first page, 2nd page, last page and the 2nd last (or all of the observations) page. This is not mentioned clearly anywhere and they charge 50 cents for each page photocopy at the VFS.

Their website states they are not accepting applications for PIO. Goto http://in.vfsglobal.ca/pio.aspx and click on Documents required and you will see the note in RED font.
