Hello

I am planning to apply for my citizenship next month and then take up a job in US or INDIA. I am wondering whether I have to be here physically untill all the process is done or I can come back whenever process is done to take my citizenship. Also, Do I have to let CIC know about moving and will there be any problem?

Can anybody help me please
Kiki

Deja vu....

There are tons of posts on this topic, but once again, the short answer is NO - you do not have to be in the country while you're waiting. You will have to appear for the test & oath ceremony as and when called.

SS,
though what you say is true, i would like to share with you an incident which had impacted me deeply about the effectiveness of laws in this country.
A friend of mine got the citizenship for his two children (11 and 13) while they were outside Canada (children arrived in Canada in May 2003 and left in Feb/Mar 2006). He then went to his family doctor and got signed the Passport application form and has submitted it. He will receive the passport for them soon. He is then going to send the passports to his native country to his children.
How could a country's laws be as naive as this (Canada being a developed country )?
(OTOH, i suspect that there will be some complications for their children to enter the country. but as usual, there will be some loophole to stay clear of this too).
TK
Sidenote : Just a true incident that i am quoting.

AFAIK kids are not required for the oath ceremony.

On a side note - TK, How come you and your friends always find a way to circumvent the law :D

SS,
I have never circumvented the law (eg. if a parking ticket was given, i always paid up or put another fine/tow for not having paid it and i end up paying the parking ticket and the fine/tow). But my fate has always been that i have only friends who try to circumvent the law or who try to exploit me. I try not to associate with them much. This particular friend that i am talking to you about, he had invited me for dinner and to pick up the suitcase that i loaned to him and he ended up telling me this experience.

Sidenote : Sent PM to Ashwani with explanation.

HI TK
It seems that something had been hidden by your friend .. Generally when u apply for a PP a recent photograph ( with the date taken ) must be submitted with the doc's .. How yr friend bypassed this procedure ??????
