Hi,
I am in the process of citizenship. Now, my question is that whether i can apply OCI for my 4 months baby ?
My wife and baby are planning to goto india for few months.
Should i wait for my citizenship and then apply OCI for both of us or can i apply now for my baby.
Please advise me, which will be the better option.....
Thanks
You can apply for OCI for the child only if either you or your spouse are non-Indian citizens. In short, you need to wait for becoming Canadian citizen; mostly you may need to wait until you have Canadian passport in hand.
Thanks viggy,
It is always adviceable to apply for PIO for kids under 20 instead of OCI. The kids passport change very 3 years and you will need to keep renewing the OCI sticker with every passport.
Also, I hope you have reviewed other posts regarding infants travelling on flights.
Good luck.
Hiren
Only one parent needs to be a canadian citizen when applying for children who are minors. You can check cgitoronto.ca under OCI eligibility criteria.
Recently they have introduced the hassle of renewing OCI each time a new passport is issued to a person under 20 years of age. Contacting the Toronto consultate is pretty difficult because they hardly ever pick up the phone and answer some selected emails.
Children over 3 years of age get a Canadian passport valid for 5 years.
