Hi Mr. Massood Joomratty

I got my citizenship yesterday for me & my 4 year old daughter & have already applied for our canadian passports. I have applied for my wife's citizenship (as she went to India for few months ), waiting for her written test......I am thinking of NOT taking citizenship for her as I am planning to go to India for good..( ofcourse I want to keep doors open so I took canadian citizenship for myself )..there r some reasons for this....

let's say in 15 years time my daughter gets admission in Engg. college in India, they'd charge me fees as per NRI quota( which would be quite exorbitant, considering right now they charge 50,000 Rs. per year )....to avoid that, if my wife doesn't get her canadian citizenship, my daughter can get normal admission as then her monther would be still Indian citizen.....

what can be other complications if my wife does not take her canadian citizenship? ( her PR is expiring in Oct., 2007).I know I can sponsor her later on, if she wants to come here....but for layman like me I don't know what problems tomorrow brings if I do this?...so Massoodji can you tell me pls what can I do?

thanks and regards

Dnyanesh Kulkarni

You don't have to sponser her again. As the spouse of a canadian citizen (you), where ever in the world you both live together, it is considered by CIC (for your spouse) as if she is in canada.

To renew her PR card, I'm not sure if you can do that CHC Delhi.

By the way, how can you get admission for your kid in an engg. college in India other than in NRI quota when your kid is no longer an Indian citizen? Your kid will any way be classified as an NRI.

Thanks for quick reply maple asian, r u sure my wife doesn't need to be sponsored again, what if her PR gets expired?

If one of the parents of the kid is still Indian citizen how can that kid be considered in NRI quota?

Massood ji u can throw some light on this imp. topic, PLS.....what can be other complications?

thanks again

When you apply for admission to any university in India they ask for the nationality of the applicant. Only Indian citizens can benefit from reduced tution fee rates and not people with canadian citizenship with an Indian Parent. This is how the law works in India.

i will leave other questions for masoodji to answer.

I personally feel that your wife should also take her CDN Citizenship. You all can get the OCI after this.

The time span you are talking about of 15 years is too long a period, where too many things can happen.

Do you know the current trend in India is that the students are going to China for a medical education. The medium of instruction is English, and they just need a second language of Chinese. The Indian Medical fraternity is more than willing to accept these graduates after a few exams(Unlike Canada !).

The reason why they are flocking is that the quality of education is top class and tuition is cheap. The cost per year is USD 3000(2K for fees and 1K for boarding and lodging). This is a far cry from the Russian education scam.

Lastly with technology advancing rapidly and with internet, Medicine and Engineering might be out of fashion by then. May be your daughter might want to be fashion designer, Biochemist, musician or even a rock star !.

Today in India there are plenty of Doctors and Engineers working at Rs.3000 per month. There are plenty of Engineering colleges all over the country with unfilled seats and are being advertised on TV. The medical education will be opened up shortly in India like the nursing course and you will find plenty of medical seats up for grabs in coming times.

Mark my words today, you will be able to study in a IIM, NMIMS, Bhavans or related institutions in GTA in the next 5 years. Classic case you can study at Bhavans or Madurai Kamaraj University in Dubai.

Please do not plan so far ahead.

starving children in India and finish the dinner.' And now I tell my
children: 'Finish your maths homework. Think of the children in India
who would make you starve, if you don't.'"

Being an Indian citizen you could still be an NRI - all you have to do is live outside the country for 183 days in a given year. Unless if you mean the NRI quota is for foreign national of Indian origin

Your wife will never lose her PR as long as she is accompanying you [a Canadian citizen spouse] ANYWHERE IN THE WORLD. She is deemed to have been residing in Canada for the whole duration outside Canada for as long as you're alive.

If you're no longer around, your daughter [the Canadian citizen] can sponsor her mother once she is working in Canada [assuming, of course, that the law stays the same ...].

Can you tell what will happen tomorrow? 15 years ...?
