Hi friends,

I have been following the discussions about getting Canadian citizenship, looking for good opportunities after Canadian citizenship etc for long time. I have been living in Canada for almost four years now. I applied for my citizenship in September last year and I expect to get it all done by this September at least, probably before election.

Now, the biggest question comes to me-Got the citizenship. Now what?

My background and current situation:-

·Current age : 33
·Profession : Accountant
·Current position : Senior Analyst with a US based company
·Salary : around 65K(got into this level only 8 month back), one person working
·Networth in Canada todate : ZERO (Well..i have been studying and had two kids in Canada, one visit to India etc etc)
·Have a Canadian qualification? : Yes. CMA
·Spouse working : NO
.Kids: two..one 4 year and other one 2)

I got an offer last year from a firm in Africa. Almost decided to take it.eventually didn’t work out.

What do you guys suggest? I almost crossed the passport hurdle. Now what? Stay or leave?

Any comments/critiques wellcome

T

Timon,

You asked a very good/intelligent question. For most desis getting Canadian citizenship is an ultimate goal. Ask them what they will achieve with the citizenship. You will get a stare.

I took the citizenship becuase of travel needs.

I would second that

After getting the Passport, The world is open to you and you can look back at India (on a PIO Card) or the good old USA for jobs which give you a lot of $$ .

Thanks for your feedbacks, They provide a lot of food for thoughts..thanks again.

Desi in Ottawa made in interesting comment. I know a couple who came to Canada, saying what they need from canada is just a passport since it provides easy access to the world. But, after 6 years of being in canada, they are still in Canada, never left canada even for a visit to India.

When I asked him whether it was really worth it, he said :(
