very bad ones :).

You find them every where in canada. They have a sign that says 'i do not accept desi's from the bottom of my heart' hanging in their living room.

However, you need to get into that living room to see the sign...either that or you have to think from the heart of your bottom to see these people.

It's all very clear dont speak like a lawyer Chandresh!

I have a black friend who in university felt that the blacks were a downtrodden lot and fought very hard for their rights. He was extremely anti-establishment and even went so far as to take over the recreation center of the university, a major Ivy League one, with machine guns and explosives and hold the university to ransom, demanding several rights for the blacks. His picture was splashed all over Newsweek and several national newspapers including the New York Times. This guy was hard core and was referred to as a rabble rouser to put it mildly.

He is now Co-Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of SSB Citi Asset Management Group, which is the asset management organization of Citigroup managing USD 325 billion dollars. They say he is the possible successor for the TOP position at Citigroup, the largest financial organisation in the world.

I have seen this man go through thick and thin to get to where he is at. You want to know Bigotry in the US, this is the man you got to talk to.

There must be several others as well.

Just bringing the US in the picture as precedent has been set ..... ahh the Perry Mason bit..

Does anyone remember this gentleman?

A few yrs ago I saw an interview(20/20) of a black media exec on TV. This guy used to be homeless(he could not pay his rent ...was kicked out by his landlord) so he used to sleep under his desk @ a brokerage firm. He has just one client...an overtly racist white southern(?) millionaire. He used to trade for the millionaire and laugh at his blatantly racist jokes. All this was fine until the millionaire decided he wanted to meet his brokerage firm buddy in person. The black guy went for the dinner meeting thinking the 'games up'. After the meeting...the millionare turned over his entire portfolio to the black guy.

I still remember what the black guy said 'At that moment i realised that the only color that really mattered was green'.

If anyone knows who I'm talking about please post links...If I am not mistaken the guy is now a multi-millionaire owning his own ad(?) agency in NYC. His 2 kids(girl and boy) help him run the agency.

I've lived in Toronto and think that this is probably one of the places in Canada where you will not feel as much bigotry as in other places due to it being very multicultured compared to other cities here...I now live in London (ON) and have found that people here (although friendly) there are some who quite openly make their feelings known about what they think of people of different ethnic backgrounds moving to Canada...in their words, and I quote, "Get back on that boat"

Before living in Canada, I lived in the UK all my life. The last time I felt the hurtful pangs of this kind of backward thinking was when I was a child in school, which is expected because kids will say the most horrible things. But to feel it again here in this country, in this day and age, from adults, is really eye opening and dissapointing to me.

I have seen a case where a desi grocery store in Brampton has hired a mentally challenged caucasian girl.

The owner of the store refers to the girl as "beti" atleast in presence of grocers. But once I saw the daughter of the owner yelling at that girl. After that incident I have stopped shopping at that grocery store.

I have been a victim of bigotry some times, but nobody has treated me badly or yelled at me or insulted me on the job. Atleast the "goras" have that ability to "act nicely" in your presence.

PP,

People like that exist everywhere on this planet including India. The difference is whether the mainstream agrees with them or not. Canada is one of the few western countries where the mainstream welcomes immigrants into the society with relative ease as compared to countries like UK, Australia and even Big Brother America.

I'm sad to admit that even I tend to think (get back on that boat) when I get ticked off by a Chinese or an eastern European person. I think it's human nature that in a confrontation with a stranger, we tend to attack the one thing we know for sure about them, their ethnicity.

Folks, lets not turn my post into another "They won't give us jobs" battle. I'm talking about social interaction opportunities (and willingness) of Canadians with new immigrants, as compared to other countries.
