Hello Everyone,
Can someone please list out variuos tax clearances / home tax clearances and other documentation which are required before leaving India.
Once the immigrations officer see the visa, do they normally ask for such details? Basically want to know what sort of questions we should have ready to face at Indian end.
Have seen a lot of posts on reaching but none on leaving !
Thanks
Tax clearance is not required any more while leaving India permanently.
Hi Desi # 1
Are you sure? I mean that sounds great !!!
Can we just have a cooo...ol sailing at the immigrations here?
Sorry if I sound cynical but have heard so many half truths that anything so simple sounds amazing!
You do not have to take tax clearance. But you do have to inform the income tax dept. There is a separate form available for it. Do a search on this site & you should be able to get the info.
I had submitted this form thro' my CA & got an acknowledgement when I went to Canada.
Rgds.
Rajan.

Let's make India a better place !
Please recheck the charcha on this topic. I recollect seeing some where the tax clearances are required and I've personally received letters from Income Tax regarding credit card usage 3 years later and I was able to close the file based on the IT clearance letter issued by Madras circle.
It is better to be harassed now itself than to get harassed sitting 16,000Kms away. It'll become a problem when you try to sell property in India down the road where you might need to produce a IT certificate or somebody stops at the airport right before getting on an airplane.
I strongly suggest that get it done than to suffer later.

Speech by Thomas Friedman of The New York Times....
"When we were young kids growing up in America, we were told to eat our
vegetables at dinner and not leave them. Mothers said, 'think of the
starving children in India and finish the dinner.' And now I tell my
children: 'Finish your maths homework. Think of the children in India
who would make you starve, if you don't.'"
