Hi guyz.. just had a few questions for people who have moved from US..
1. planning to cross over from niagara by car.. is it required/better to hand over the I-94 before crossing over or doesn't matter ?.. if u did then how coz there's no checkpoint when leaving ? do we park in one of the parking lots and walk over to the US post and give it that way ?
2. which place should I consider moving to initially in GTA ? saw other threads asking the same and identified the following places (in this order) - Markham/Toronto, Bloor/Islington/Etobicoke, Don Mills/Sheppered, Dundas/Hurontario, Malton, Mississauga, Scarborough, Richmond Hill, York/North York.. am single and looking to share a 2b/2b apt (not basement or pg).. what do u suggest ?
3. regarding bring over funds.. plan is to bring just a little for now and then withdraw from the US accts (if reqd) till I start earning there.. whats the best way to withdraw funds from US accts ? have accts in Citibank (e-savings, checking) and HSBC (e-savings).. both are linked to BOA (checking).. would it make sense to open accts in the same banks there ?
4. getting a cellphone and plan would be one of the first things to do.. have Sprint here and think it is called Rogers there.. so would be easier to get it from them ? or just pay deposit and u can get it from others too ?
Thanks a lot in advance.. appreciate.

consider moving to Ottawa , London ( in Ontario ) , Kitchener ( lot of Tech jobs in the area )
definitely not etobicoke ot malton areas of GTA
re. border crossing there are multiple threads , search within CD

Non illigitamus carborundum
yeah.. the Kitchener area is a good option too.. london is a bit far from GTA.. will re-locate to any area once I get a job there.. just wanted to be close to GTA initially.
thanks GE..

Why not Etobicoke?? Any disadvantages..?
1) It is in your best interest to hand over your I-94 when you cross. You can stop at the US station and hand it over.
2)Depends on your budget. In terms of good places to live, my choice would be the Square One area in Mississauga, or somewhere near downtown Toronto.
3)There are no 'same' banks in Canada as in the USA. There is no Bank of America in Canada, so really the question of opening accounts with the 'same' banks does not arise. eg. Even if you opened accounts with HSBC which is present in the US and Canada, essentially the two systems are not linked at all.
4)For all practical purposes your sprint cell phone service has nothing to do with Rogers. You will have to get a brand new plan, whether you choose rogers, telus etc. is upto you. I do believe that Sprint perhaps also does offer cell phone service in toronto though I am not sure. However, I am quiet certain you will have to sign a new contract. others might know better.
