Under provincial legislation that became effective on August 1, 2006,
municipal officials are required to inspect marijuana grow houses once they have been identified and shut down by police.

When police inform a municipality that a property is/was a grow house, the local municipality is required to ensure that an inspection of the building
is conducted within a reasonable time. Besides, the municipality is
required to take whatever action it is authorized by law to take in order to
make the building safe and protect the public. This could include issuing orders
under the Building Code.

Specific procedures and protocols for complying with these obligations may
vary according to municipality. Under the City of Toronto’s protocol, orders resulting from municipal inspections of a property that contained a grow house may be registered on the title of the property until outstanding issues have been addressed.

If anyone was operating a home as a "grow house", this law would not bother him/her, be he/she be of any race/colour...as no law ever does bother any criminal.

However, if you were in the market to buy a property that could have been used for these operations, this law would serve them well and assure them that the home has been cleared by the authorities to be safe for living.

Hope it helped.

Thanks. Informative post. You do not want to buy a house and find after a few rains some plants have sprouted again in your backyard and the police is swarming all over.

:p

Pot is Canada's No. 1 cash crop!

Will the cost of making good these grow houses come out of the tax payers pocket or the criminals?

Cost to make good a home can be thousands of dollars. Almost 100 labs were taken down by the Peel police in 2005 down from 239 labs in 2004. These numbers might be only 10-15% of the total grow lab properties.
