A Proud Indian Canadian
Nicely summed up.
Garvo Gujarati put very right comment and good observation by dip on world economics.
Here a question is how to define good living standard or lifestyle? That varies from person to person with different countries.
-For some living with nature, good clean water, air and a good job to pay bill and mortgage is good life.
-For some only million of Rs or $ is good life but live like with very basics and put all money in godown.
-For some career, becoming manager/CEO is good life. They like to grow very fast in career.
- For some living with or near by relatives, families and friends is good life irrespective of other things or problems.
- For some they are still figuring out what they like or want and it takes whole life.

Tell me though, dips, why would a poorer substratum of people be accepted into Canada?
Its actually the well to do/up and coming sections of the society who do currently choose to migrate from places like India.
Well said GG !.

Speech by Thomas Friedman of The New York Times....
"When we were young kids growing up in America, we were told to eat our
vegetables at dinner and not leave them. Mothers said, 'think of the
starving children in India and finish the dinner.' And now I tell my
children: 'Finish your maths homework. Think of the children in India
who would make you starve, if you don't.'"
Dips and shankaracharya,
I can understand your point but that is not always true that only salary/job drive whole life and that is only criteria to decide doing good/bad.
There are lot of people I know in Canada and US both they are mainly in IT (other field too) having 9-10 yrs of total experience (5-6 yrs in north America) are still here and doing good. Mostly they are good from family financial background. They can do good/better in India but are still here. They can be manager/Director and can make any range of salary there.
Salary/job profile can move life from CRT tv to LCD, can move life from local shirt to Locuste, move Maruti to Honda but can not create parks, good civilized society, clean air, clean water, clean lakes, social obligation/pain, concept of weekend outings or camping, skiing, affordability to fly anytime to Vegas or Vancouver, public services.
But yes, a good job is very important of top of all irrespective where you live.

=CANADA? I feel very sorry about it. It does not value properly the brightest pull of immigrants it has got. However for the new generation that is getting educated here, it should not be a barrier.
