Hi,
My Mother is in Canada on Visit Visa. She has got a multiple entry Visa for one year which is valid from Aug 06 to Sep 07. She landed Canada on Sep 11th 06. In the port of landing, she was given the stay upto Mar 10th 07. I'm planning to extend her Visa for the next 6 months since my wife is due in Feb 07. So, is it okay to provide the reason to the immigration for this extension relating to my wife's delivery ? Since, in India they say that if we specify this reason then it's pretty difficult to get a visit visa from India. Hence, please advice on this. Any ideas/ comments would be appreciated.

Shekars,
From where did you get this notion that if you say your wife is due , "it would be pretty difficult to get a visit visa from India"
If that is a genuine case and if you show all the related doctor's documents etc. then there is very high chances of getting the visa .
But certainly I would like to hear from you your version related to this !
Sunny 2,
There are all kinds of experiences with Visa officers in India that it is impossible to generalise.
In one of my family members office, 10 Indian family members were rejected of Visitor's visa b'cos they said that it was for help during pregnancy. We know of only 1 case of being accepted for this reason. For Canadian visa officers, this may seem like a stupid excuse since Canada is supposed to offer full service pregnancy care.
OTOH, There are people who were rejected for the same reason and the invitee simply filed their visitor visa application again and then got it in the 3 to the 6th time.
There is really no clear answer but you stand a better chance with just an invitation to visit and a letter from your MP/MLA/MPP.
There have also been cases in which Visitor's visa was granted at the first attempt in India for people 80 years old without any medical.
Try your luck in India is what i would call it.

Sidenote : I was afraid of all this hassles and hence applied in Washington DC. My mum was very sick but it seems that the visa officer did not even see their faces while approving their application. I did not give any MP's letter and all my documents were faxed documents w/o a notary attestation. I also did not submit any bank statement. But remember that i filed in USA. I had a 1 % hope that their application would be accepted but it was accepted.
