Hi,

I am Indian Citizen and Canadian PR, and daily commute to Detroit from Windsor for job on H1B visa. My passport is expiring soon (after 10 years), so I have to get the new Indian Passport from Toronto Indian Consulate.

I need the passport the same day so that I can continue my job since next day. I checked on Indian Consulate website that they can give the passport same day for an extra fee of $120 as Tatkal Fee, in addition to $65 regular passport fee.

I also talked to one person in Toronto and he told me that there is 3 hour line before the window opens at 9:30 AM, and people arrive at the Indian Consulate in Toronto at 6:00 AM in the morning to get the early number token. I am trying to contact consulate for past two weeks but nobody is picking up the phone and even not responding to the emails I have written to them.

I would like to learn from you if this wait time is true?
I will also appreciate if you can share the experience for similar requirement of getting the Indian Passport same day.

Any other guidance is also welcome.

I had been to passport office recently for my work. Yes, its true that people line up much before the office opens. But if you can be there by 7 or 7.30 you have the chances of getting the token within the first 20. And as the office opens at 9.30 your will get your turn within 10.30.

Sorry, I havent experienced about getting passport back same day.A lady standing in the queue told me that they do give it back on the same day.
But be ready with the documents:
1) Your original passport with a photocopy.
2) Your PR card with a photocopy.
3) four passport size photographs 1.75 inches* 2 inches against a light background.
4) the fee.
5) A form or two filled up. (the forms will be given along with the token)

I have also read something put up on the notice board that any fee more than 100$ will not be accepted in form of cash. you'll have to give it in form of draft.I dont know whether that implies to you or not. plz find out.

And also that the consulate has now been shifted to new address at
Bloor-yonge.
