Leaving Canada after applying for Citizenship - possible drawbacks

Hi Everyone,
I read here and also on other forums where people suggesting that if you leave Canada just after applying for citizenship, there is no issues as long as someone picks up your mail and informs you about the test and oath date.
Also, CIC website nowhere mentions that you have to be in Canada until you become a citizen from your application date.
But it's not that straight forward. Followings are some of the reasons:
1. In some cases, before you are called for the Test, CIC calls you at your home phone number just to ensure you live there ( I have a friend who went thru this).
2. In some cases, they ask for more documents before test.
3. On the Test day, they ask specifically to some candidates (\"Where do you live?\" \"What you do for living\"
. If you don't live at that time in Canada, you will surely get a Residency Questionnaire. That will set you back 3-6 months.
4. Finally, if you have to see a Citizenship Judge and looking at your passport he can clearly see that you didn't live in Canada (after applying for Citizenship), I believe that will not be a good thing for you. But can a Judge deny citizenship in such cases?
5. Sometimes, they purposely invite you for oath with 7 days notice (you may not be able to reach in such a short notice).
Some might have been succesful just by coming to Canada on Test & Oath day but with the recent global security concerns affecting many decisions of the govts around the world, I think the short-cut process is just an exception for some but unrealistic for many of us.

What you say is right. The law does not state that you have to live in Canada after you apply for citizenship. It says that you have to be a legal PR of Canada and maintain that status till you become cdn.
If you leave the country, they might ask you about your leaving Canada after applying for citizenship. The residence questionnaire or the interview with the judge will delay the process and might prove to be hectic. But if you have satisfied the physical presence test before the application and tell the truth, they cannot deny you the citizenship just because you left Canada right after applying for the citizenship.

also you can call and inform cic that you are leaving out of canada from so and so date and they will not send for the test or oath during that time .

Don't bet your house on that!!
I was visiting India on vacation and informed CIC that I would be away for 4 weeks and they still sent me the written test notification, a few days after I had left. Although my friend picked up the mail and informed me, there was no way that I could cut my vacation short and fly back at a weeks notice.
This set me back by 4-5 months
I had to again visit India for about 2 weeks around the time the oath was to be taken (9-10 months after my previous trip) and informed CIC not to send me the notification. And you guessed it..they sent me the oath notification, which I missed.
This time they asked for my fingerprints for a background check.
Anyhow, I finally got my citizenship 20 months after the appication was sent.
Moral of the Story : If anything can go wrong it will.

freaky issue you got there...
the only time you can go is when the test and everything is over and you are only waiting for the oath..
if you can arrange somebody to inform you about the oath it is good enough..
there normally is atleast two weeks of time...
i have not heard of anybody getting an oath call right after the test withing 7 days...
if you are ready with all the documentation required for applying for a passport you can do it the same day right after the oath and leave yet again to wherever you came from..
your passport will be delivered to the address that you give...
so.......... get done with the oath and you are all set to

You misunderstood me. I got the call for the written test when I was in India (March 2004). I missed that and they gave me another date in July-August 2004, which is when I wrote the test
I got the call for oath in Jan 2005 (again I was In India), so missed that.
The point I am trying to make is that on both occasions, I had informed CIC about my absence, still got a call from there, so do not take anything for granted.
I am settled in Canada and have never left the country on a prolonged absence, except for vacations. It was just my bad luck that I got called up for the writtent test AND the oath during two separate vacations.
