Jhon,

Let me explain to you a little bit how they work as I happened to ask the lady when I took my Citizenship test. According to her the process is somewhat like this.

When you apply and send your application by mail, it goes to their Sydney, Nova Scotia office. She told me that they have only 2 centralized office, the other one being some where in western Canada..I am not sure but I think she said BC...

Mind youthat all the files from all parts of Canada reach these 2 offices, where they take some time (4-6 weeks) in scruitinizing them and if every thing is in order, they wouls send you an acknowledgement of receiving your file and send you a booklet 'A look at Canada' and then transfer the file to the office nearest to your place of living, which in your case is also the same as Scarborough. Then they update the e-client status which tells you the date the file was sent to Scarborough Office and the status as IN PROCESS.

The Scarborough office would recheck the file and then would send the details to RCMP who will do a \"security check\" on yourself. Now this check is the main time consuming process. Depending on your situation, how many times you went out of Canada, how many times you visited USA and the City and Country from where you migrated, they will try to do a criminal check for every one over 18 years of age. Here RCMP has to depend on some other agencies ( similary agency in your home country) to get these checks done. If they are fast enough in replying then RCMP would clear you and send the info to Scarborough office who would then send you a letter saying you are to appear for a test and then they would update the e-client status. When they send you a letter for asking to appear in test, they give you atleast 4-5 weeks time for that and it also increases the total time.

After you pass the test then they take 6-8 weeks and call you as per their convenience as they have to arrange for the ceremony and in Scarborough they wait for 250 people to come and attend the ceremony.

I hope it would clear things a little more.

Citz. application receipt dated: 29-Sept-03
Received acknowledgment & book: 29-oct-03
CPC started processing: 16-Dec-03
File transferred to local office (Windsor, ON): 22-Jan-04

Does anyone have an idea about the Windsor office time line.
When can I expect the Test date?
Do they update e-client status after they send us the test date letter?
Thanks for all your responses!

thanks for this uptodate Inf i thought the the office in sydney Nova scotia
are respansible for the security check when they receive the application they will send the inf to the RCMP for clearance after they receive the clearance from the RCMP then they will send your file to the local office for testing an the citizenship oath.if my file has been send for the scarborought for checking why they did update the Inf on the e-cilent saying my file was transferred on januay 7 2004 to the scarborought office for the citizenship test and taking the oath (not for security check)
what my file was doing for last four and a half month in sydney then.
my question is (pramod chopra) if you look at you e-cilent file can you just tell me just the time , THEY SEND YOUR FILE TO THE SCARBOROUGHT- TO THE TIME THEY SEND YOU THE WRITTEN TEST NOTICE) How much time period , so could know when i do exepect to receive a letter . my answer for (aurara) is that we are in the same sea
i will let you know if i receive any info from cic or my file being yptodate for the written test and you just feep posting if you have any Inf
thanks for all and specially for Pramod chopra for the responding

Jhon,

In reply to your querris I can only say that I wrote what was told to me by the lady who took our Citizenship exam. And it looks right to me because she showed to me our files and it was clear from the files that my clearance from RCMP came in end of April 2003 while for my wife they received the RCMP clearance only in Oct 2003. Since, we applied as a family they would not call a single person for test and oath, rather wait for clearance for all family members and then send letter for the test.

This would be further clear from my e-client status which I am posting here;

We received your application for grant of Canadian citizenship (adult) on March 05, 2003.

We sent you a letter acknowledging receipt of your application, and a study book called A Look at Canada on March 05, 2003.

We started processing your application on March 25, 2003.

Your file was transferred on March 28, 2003 to the Scarborough office for the citizenship testing and taking of the citizenship oath. The Scarborough office will contact you to write the Citizenship test.

We sent you a notice on October 27, 2003 to Sheppard Avenue East, Scarborough, Ontario, Canada , M1S5B3 to appear and write the Citizenship test on November 19, 2003 at 8:30am. If this address is not correct, please contact us. Thank you.

We sent you a notice on January 20, 2004 to Sheppard Avenue East, Scarborough, Ontario, Canada , M1S5B3 to appear and take the Oath of Citizenship on February 25, 2004 at 12:30pm. If this address is not correct, please contact us. Thank you.

I hope this will make things clear as it is evident that the Scarborough Office received our file in March 2003 and then sent us letter in October, 2003 to write Citizenship Test, a period of 7 months after they received clearance for all of our family members.

They will take their own sweet time and there is nothing you can do the expedite it so instead of worrying for it you should be concentrating on more important things. As far as the book " A look at Canada" is concerned, it is on their website and also you can call at their call centre and they will mail it to you the same day. Alternatively, you can go to the Scarborough Town Centre, ( I believe Room No.380) and can get a copy from there.

Good Luck
