Hello Everyone,

Happy Friday! We were recently approached by Direct Energy for switching over our gas service to them from Enbridge; we didn't sign up because we knew nothing and wanted to do more research. We discovered that there are many companies like Direct Energy that provide this service and were wondering if anyone else can share their experiences with the gas companies. Did any one else make the switch? Is it worth the savings? Are there any catches to be aware of?

Have a great weekend!
Thanks,

BG

I have never signed a contract with Direct Energy.

When you sign with Direct Energy (or another party) you are only changing the distributor of the gas. Enbridge is always the supplier regardless. I have not signed a contract and according to my statements from Enbridge compared to what Direct Energy was charging, I have paid less over the past 5 years.

The "BIG" catch is that it's a binding contract which is very hard (if not impossible) to get out of once signed.

They have approached every house in our complex and continue to do so. And I continue to politely say no. From what I have heard, one of my colleague's friend signed a contract and ended up paying relatively more. In addition, they make you wait for days in case you wanted to exercise the "free furnace repair" they apparently entice you with. Bottomline, I don't even talk to these reps.

Don't go for Direct Energy.

They have a very aggressive sales team that will promise heaven and paradise. They have lots of complaints from unsatisfied customers who were tricked into signing contracts with them. Read the following news article.
