we're landing this year July, so right now just looking online for general info...we'll be bringing our valuables with us..gold etc and are looking for the best deal for a SAFETY DEPOSIT BOX..i checked out a few banks online..but does anybody know of any other safety deposit locations? or any experiences of owning such a box..if a bank..which one do u recommend? thanx

If the branch (with which you are opening the bank account) does not have one then get yourself put on a waitlist. Generally you should get in six months to one year.
If you have account with TD, most of the TD branches have and you can go to any branch and get SD.
Put it in Safety deposit ASAP as thieves target Indian houses as they know Indians have lot of gold jewellery. It has happened to many Indian familes specially in places like Scarborough.

I dont know the situtation in Canada, but in Australia thieves were entering desis houses with hand held metal detectors. It was common there by thieves to use metal detectors at desi homes. They know desi have gold jewelry and they used to steal only jewellery items, why carry large items. Insurance had put a limit of max $1000 for gold jewellery.

It depends which size you need. The best way is to open a website of the bank and ask every branch for the same.
