Hi guys
i need your suggestion to take my less than yr. baby to Toronto airport from my home in GTA. As i dont want to carry my heavy car seat/base in the plane to go to India.

I was wondering how families travel with car seat babies to airport here in GTA.

Is it mandatory to have a baby travel in car seats only even going to airport.

Show me the right way, all my seniors & jr. CD's ..

thanks

I would talk to Airport or Other TAXI Services... Even better talk to MTO.

I found this http://www.wheels.ca/article/31009

Cab drivers are responsible for ensuring that passengers under 16 who may be safely secured by a seatbelt alone (over 8 years old, or 80 pounds, or 4-foot-9) are properly secured in a seatbelt. Passengers 16 and older are responsible for buckling themselves up.

Cab drivers are exempt from the child car seat and booster seat requirement when transporting a child passenger for hire. They may be used, if available, but are not currently compelled by law in a taxi.

Hi,

We face this problem every time we travel to States or Canada, in Miami I was informed that parents with small kids without car seats and travelling from airport to home/hotel need to hire a Mini Van instead of a normal taxi. We did the same for our visit to Toronto (kids on the last seat of the van). Mini vans (7 seaters).

Hope this helps.................

Please make 'SAFETY' your priority, not conveinence. Car seats/Booster seats/ Seat belts are mandatory, not only by LAW, but also for your /your family's safety. I wouldnt place conveinence over safety, especially for an infant. Look at your options before deciding to take the risk :

1. Do you have any one who will accompany you to Airport and can return with the Carseat?

2. Call the taxi service in advance and arrange with them. A few of them do offer infant car seats and have this service complimentary, if requested in advance. However, they may be premium service taxis. not necessarily your cheapest option.

3. Can any friend offer you a ride to the airport, alteast for the sake of infant, without the luggage?

4. Finally, if there is no other option, travel in a Van instead of a regular taxi and stay alert.

I am sure you will be using the expressways to drive to the airport and hence the safety of the infant is of paramount importance.

If its a weekend and time suitable to both of us, I can offer to drop you off in my Van, PM me if you wish.

All the best.

Hiren

Original Poster: You can carry the infant/child on your lap on your way to/from the airport.

Yanksingh: We flew with a 11month baby and here are my tips.

1: After the plane has taken off, and the stewardesses are not busy ask one if you can relocate to a 3 seater if there are empty seats. If you can- then great. My son sat on the seat in between us, we put the tray down and he played with his toys. When he went to sleep he was comfortable. We had the adult belt around him at all times.

2: If #1 is not possible, then when the baby is sleeping, open both the trays in front of you, put blanket to make it soft and let the baby sleep there. Ofcourse, you can eat only one at a time and holding your tray alot. When baby was awake we kept him lap (with extender belt) and tried to give him toys/crayons/etc to keep him occupied.

----------
While going we did all the above but it was still difficult/tiring. While coming back we doped him up and got a bit of peace- even though I felt very guilty for doing it. He was OK- no side effects, so that is an option if you want.

Good Luck. Traveling with a child is never easy!
