Dear Friends,
please advice, I am not sure how to proceed.
First entry in Jan 2005( self, wife and two sons aged 18 and 11). stayed for three weeks.
second entry during May2005.(all except self)
I entered Canada for a brief period of 40 days during august/sep2005.
Family satyed in canada from May 2005 to June 2006.
The plan was self to join them during June 2006.
I had a setback in my health in May 2005. My wife and younger son joined me in India and they are still with me. Elder son is staying in canada and studying.
We all are planning to go to canada in July 2007 for good.
I filed a tax return for 2005 as resident of canada. I want o file a tax return for 2006 also. Eventhough I did not spend any time in canada in 2006, I have established links like Driving Licence, Bank account, maintaining a rental apartment where my son is staying now etc.
I was told that I can file tax return as non resident. If I am not expecting any returns then it can be filed even after april 30th deadline. Is it true?
I would prefer to file the return as a resident of Canada, as I have establlished links as statated above.
Can some one guide me Please?
