Is it morally ok to take welfare from government when you are physically and mentally ok to work....
When i look around there are hundred of men and women they are taking welfare from govt. instead of working and the ppl who work have to pay for them....
for example if some one is working 9am -5 Pm making 50K a year usually he /she pays more than a 1000 per month as tax plus you have to take work stress and so on....
and when a person looks around there are tons of ppl who just take welfare from govt and some of them may be working on cash. is it right to just sit at home and get money and working ppl have to work hard .... give away their life to feed them ....
I am sure you guys know what i am talking about.. i am not talking about old ppl i am talking about lazy ppl....
then our governemt always talks about shortage of money... have they ever tried to really investigate that who is taking welfare and why.... I am sure they can save Millions and Millions of Money to spend on Road and So on....
Another issue...
When ever a person goes to Desi Shop(Most of them doing cash transactions) they charge you GST and PST, and when you ask them for GST and PST # usually they get angry... i am pretty sure we all know they never report this to CRA... IS it Morally Right.............what you think about this kind of cheating....
Thanks,
Tiger
If i am not worng, if you are not handicapped, you cannot stay on welfare all your life, you can stay on welfare only for some amount of time (24 months).
This is what i heard, please correct me if i am wrong.
Also you may be able to live on welfare, but you will not live a good life on welfare (House on mortgage, new car, vacation etc)
Yes the desi shops do not report everything to CRA. If you believe this is not fair report them to CRA
Ask yourself if you had the oppurtuinity to hide income from CRA would you do so? After all you are complaining about people who do nothing and live on welfare system which gets money from your tax dollars?

Well TigerCanada,
I am sure that people will have their own reasons for defrauding the govt.. and they do it b'cos their mind justifies it. I am positive that each and everyone have defrauded the govt. at one time or the other.
But be assured that the govt. is doing all that it can to prevent these kind of welfare fraud. Also if you are welfare, you are under constant monitoring. If you donot have a disability there is always a push from the welfare agents to stop the welfare and try to put you in a job. The only people for which the welfare agents are lenient are Single mothers. Single mothers generally are under no obligatiion to exit from welfare and many single mothers prefer to stay on welfare b'cos there is no pressure to get out of it and the money is really good.

Ontario Works - the provincial ministry of social assistance describes eligibility for social allowances as follows:
"Who is eligible for Ontario Works?
To be eligible for Ontario Works, applicants must be residents of Ontario. Eligibility for Ontario Works is based on an assessment of financial need and an agreement to participate in employment activities.
Financial need is determined according to family size, income, assets, and shelter costs, and is updated as circumstances change. For example, a single person can only have assets (either cash or specific items that can be easily converted to cash) valued at up to $536. For families, the asset limit is higher.
Participation expectations are laid out in an agreement, which is signed by each individual applicant and updated as activities are completed or modified.
The agreement includes a plan to take part in employment assistance activities that support the individual's transition to employment.
Eligibility rules are designed to ensure that people turn to social assistance only when all other financial resources have been exhausted."
It is based on financial need. They will assess assets. Usually if you have a child under three years of age, there is no requirement for a parent (usually mother) to work until the child turns three.
