Hi,
Does anyone have experience of working on L1 in US being a PR of Canada?
1. Do you get paid only in US or only in Canada?
2. What are the tax implications in both the countries?
3. How about maintaining the status and the citizenship?
Thanks.
Hi,
1} They will not pay you twice, that is for sure and we both know that. The salary will be in US dollars since you live and work there. You also pay taxes there. You can also avail the deductions that they will provide, such as 401K etc., avail them from the start, in their tax system.
2} The tax is paid in the USA and hence you are not taxed twice. When you initially file your taxes you will file in both the countries and avail all of the benefits provided there in the returns. Since there is an agreement between the two countries that you will not be taxed {charged} twice, (Double taxation treaty), you are in a safe territory. The taxation will be proportionate, whatever it means. (Six of one and half a dozen of the other}
3} You have lived here for a number of days and you know howmany? See if you can fulfil the rest to make them into 365 x 3 = 1095, before the five years are up, either by hook or by crook! {By spending your times of break, long week ends, or br nipping across the border on occasions that will permit you to come down to Canada. You don't have any old flames here do you?!} But do renew the PR card if you do have the requiured 731 days in the five year time period, AND 'before' it lapses.
Stay cool.
Freddie.
