One of my good friends, a muslim, invited me, a hindu and another mutual friend of ours, a hindu as well to their "iftar" during Ramadan.
Me and my family were honoured and delighted to be part of the occasion and really enjoyed the meal and the "hospitality" if you will. My relationship with this muslim friend has strengthened my belief that generalizing your views on a community is highly unfair. Some bad elements should not make you STUPID enuf to think everyone's the same.
This other hindu friend of mine, ate quite well at the iftar even going as far as complimenting our friend's wife that she was the best cook, it was the best food he has ever had etc etc. He complemented his verbal compliments with obvious visual display along the lines of a wild animal gorging on dead carcass...u know...like the hyenas gobbling scraps??? The sight made me want to puke...
Anyways, after all this, this guy has the audacity, the unfathomable hypocrisy to declare to all other friends, during a different meet, that muslims should be driven out of India and that they are the root cause of ALL evil in India. How disgusting is this?
I have completely broken my ties with this other hindu guy and his family. I am ashamed to even have been a "friend" of this guy.
This level of crooked, tilted behaviour is despicable. All said and done, why are we STILL harboring such sentiments? Why haven't we given it up? At least after leaving India? Can you not not come to a new country to lead a new life with fresh ideas and an open mind?
Am I the only one who thinks this way? I pray and hope not...

umm......no comment.
I dunno why. I guess hypocrisy is pretty hard to give up and the change in location does not help much. I'm sure you'll agree that ridding of these kinds of tendencies takes a lot more than a flight to another continent.
It doesn't have anything to do with India or Hindus or Muslims though. This kind of hypocrisy in various shapes and forms is prevalent across the planet and societies somehow foster it.

I agree with Blobster, leave apart the Hindu/Muslim, even in Hindus we have so many sub castes and people do mingle around but are comfy with there own caste. Trust me; I always thought what a pity...caste. Sindhi, Punjabi, Gujarati but believe me we all among ourselves are also different. I'm a sole Punjabi in an Indian community dominated by Sindhis, at a party a guy was commenting on the business skills of the Indians and pointed "Punjabis are Jews of India" with all eyes on us.
My aunt living in US is a Canadian and wants to go back to Canada for her daughter to get married "Wahan apne log hain" means there are our people (Punju's) there!

I fully agree on it.

Well, some people need a free meal. They will do anything to get one and after that they will forget abt the people who gave the the free meal. And end up badmouthing them. I have come across number of them in Ottawa. They are so nice to u and sweet talk, till they get a free meal at your place. After that they behave as if they have never met u in their life.

It sounds like the way you were able to create that bridge.."my experience with this particular family shows me that it is not possible to generalize about an entire religious community thus I should avoid bias in the future"..may have been missed in your friend. Just based on your words, is it possible that he didnt make that bridge? that he spoke unconsciously - generalizing if you will, without connecting that just a while ago he was socializing with a muslim family?
People tend to justify their biases with "well..that family is different.."
its not right..its just what I have observed.
I am biased against the way punjabi's as a community..not individually..seem to be all about 'punjab'. Its as if they are on a separate continent compared to India. I live in surrey... and it just makes me sad that my generation..2nd generation..dont know anything about India beyond punjab.
