Yesterday, I saw electric snow remover at Canadian Tire for about $130.
We have moved to a house this year, and this will be our first winter in a house.
Has anyone used electric snow remover. Is it better than doing it manually with the shovel. Any comments or advice.
Cheers

Hello gforacle,
I have seen these Electric Snow Shovels at the store. It will also call for a sturdy Electric cord and a Ground Fault Interruper Circuit to use, for safety reasons. Some of them have castors for keeping them afloat on the drive way. Some of them have wheels too. You will find that the ones with the wheels have a slight edge over the other. This helps in your manual efforts in pushing to remove the snow.
You also will have to keep the cord (Electrical) away from the path of the shovel while pushing forward.
This machine will certainly help in pushing snow upto six inches or 15 cms of snow build up. Anything over and above it will only skim the top in the first run and then might call for a second run at the same spot.
Another thing you must remember, it only throws it in its own path and to the front of itself. If only it had a directional deflector to throw it far, and then away from the direction in which it is moving, it will be a great gadget.
Buying this device is like a kids toy and after a while you will find it consumes more of your time and find that you have not accomplished in cleaning the drive way.
Ones that have a few of the desired features cost slightly more and it will be worth the extra sum that you will spend and the machine will be more robust and will last a few years.
Depending on loction where you are located, I would say that we always can use any snow blower three or four times, any year. The low end machines will not help in doing anything with these snow build ups. You would have wished that you had a bigger machine.
I am an Hamaneggar. My machine is Manomatic and starts better with Ham and Eggs and with a good cup of coffee. If I note that there is going to be a snow build up in the morning before the car has to be started, then I start atleast half an hour before my normal start time, and clear a swath for the car to get out of the driveway. Then, I am off to work and after my return I do the secondary cleaning to my liking.
I am looking for a used self propelled snow BLOWER for the fewdays with heavy snow falls with a few feet of build up before the start of the morning. I expect to pay upto $250.00 for it. They are hard to come by, but a wait is worth it. I will be at some of the flea markets and scout for these machines and since I am handy at fixing most of these, I will not find it difficult.
And if you do find one that is on your wish list, drop me a note when you do find one that you always wanted. You will find that it will work and work and work.... till one fine day you get fed up with it. Then it will end up at the flea market once again.
Welcome to the Winter wonderland and the plesure of owning your own Igloo. Now you know that there are obligations that go with the ownership. I hear you.....
Freddie.
