Hi all,

I am a 25 year old father with a lovely 1 month daughter, currently working as Software engineer at trivandrum,Kerala,India. For some time now , I have been pondering over the question of migration to Uk,AUS or Canada simply because to get a better life style , job and education for my kid. Financial gains also included. But the risk of investing so much money (around 10 laks INR) is also holding me back.

i would like to know more about Canada as a land of opportunities relating to IT field. I am open to do any kind of work for some time till i land the perfect job.

Do I need to get my qualification assessed?

How good is an Indian engineering degree ? Do i need to take any canadian degree r certifications ?

What will be the bare minimum i have to earn inorder to just survive my family ..

how about the climate ? heard its ok in Vancouver ...Still will we able to withstand it ??

Also we r a muslim family ....any kind of discrimination towards our community or for tht matter asians as a whole ??

I know i have asked too much ,but let this be a sort of guide to all those aspirants !!

Thanks in advance guys !!

[Canada gives you a better quality of living (air, water, environment, housing, less crowds, resources) but not necessarily the time or peace of mind to enjoy the same. You will be far from your family and might not get a job in your field which can be stressful and as you know you might have to start from zero with no promises of reaching anywhere. Though some/many do make it, more dont. Discrimination is difficult to pinpoint and many get the feeling they are being discriminated against becos of colour of skin, language, education or religion but there is no proof as this discrimination is very subtle. In my humble opinion if you are well settled in India then don't come. If, on the other hand you have nothing to lose by giving up what you have then welcome to Canada. The cold is the least of your worries...

Dearest ljlijash,

The countless posts and threads in this forum will give you a far clear idea of life here. Do not go by what you see in immigration brochures or advertisements.

Please use the search feature in this forum to pullup all the old posts to get a clear idea about life and living in Canada.

Good luck,

seenappa

---------I think under skill category it will take good 3-5 years to migrate.

----- In simple words... Indian degree is good in India.

What will be the bare minimum i have to earn inorder to just survive my family ..

--- If you rent an appartment and take pubic tran. then $2000-$2500

Also we r a muslim family ....any kind of discrimination towards our community or for tht matter asians as a whole ??

You may need that for a technical job. Check WES website for more details. For immigration you do not need to get the assessment.

You may need P.Eng. Other members may guide you.

Net $2500 p.m.

Vancouver is not cold but very wet. Otherwise it is COLD elsewhere. However you will get through that stage in a couple of years.

Racism against non whites is a reality at the work place. It is subtle and cannot be easily defined or protested against. Otherwise discrimination is lesser. But the most important reason for your migration - work, is where you will be discriminated the most. Most corporate offices are white washed.

It is good to ask beforehand and make a informed decision rather than regret later. So ask questions.

Thanks in advance guys !!
