If you live in Southern Ontario, prepare for an extremely slow, difficult drive on Thursday no matter if you're heading into work, finishing up your Christmas shopping or travelling for the Christmas holidays. A major winter storm south of the border is intensifying and making its way towards Southern Ontario. Roads and highways are expected to be a mess while airlines could experience flight delays or cancellations.
Snow has started to fall in the Windsor, London and Fort Erie areas. The snow will gradually spread into the rest of Southern Ontario by tonight. Fifteen to 25 cm of snow is possible north of the low track and up to 45 mm of rain south of the track. Storm totals are from this morning through to Thursday afternoon.
The Ottawa Valley will likely change over to freezing rain sometime early Thursday morning and switch back to snow later Thursday afternoon. The St Lawrence Valley will change over to freezing rain about the same time but may switch over to a brief period of rain by midday before switching back to snow in the afternoon.
Areas adjacent to the north shore of Lake Ontario (GTA) and particularly in eastern sections will likely change over to an extended period of rain tomorrow though freezing rain cannot be ruled out in these areas. Once the storm has passed the winds will shift to the north bringing much colder air and setting up a scenario for possibly flash freeze conditions in some areas.
Stormy conditions will include strong winds both ahead and behind this system as it develops tomorrow. Northwesterly snow squalls off Lake Huron and Georgian Bay are likely in its wake by Thursday evening. The snow belt areas could receive heavier local amounts as a result of lake enhancement.
Travelling today in extreme Southern Ontario will be potentially dangerous. These potentially dangerous travelling conditions will spread over the remainder of Southern Ontario by this evening.
If severe winter weather is occurring in your area we would love to hear from you. Give us a call on our StormLine at 1-800-463-9463 to report conditions. You can also tune into The Weather Network on tv for special StormWatch segments at :22 and :52 minutes past each hour.

And it was my 1st experienc of loosing control on hwy. There was one driving ahead on hwy n suddely break n i tried to change the lane as its not advisable to break in winter specially when snow is not removed. Unfortunatially there was more snow on far right lane and car start speening. driving northbound n now i was facing southbound. luckly no one was behind or around me so i took U turn n back on normal with extra caution this time!!
I was wonder if there anyone here from more then 3 years and never have this kind of experience.
Any senior member not having this kind of experince so far???
Any tips of winter driving???

Special Requests: Please call me after 5:30 because I am self-employed and my employer does not know I am looking for another job
It happended to me just yesterday while driving back. I was at the speed of about 60 and while changing lane, it just skidded so my car waved across two lanes for couple of times. Fortunately no one was around me at that time.
This is my fifth winter and it happened to me first time.
