Yes, CGI will return original there and then after verifying in front of you.

Spouse signature needed even if primary applicant is applying. infact spouse copy of record of landing also needed and carry original of the same also along with other originals.

After applying it takes about 5-6 weeks in getting OCI.

Yes, after putting stamp cancelled, CGI will return Indian passport too.
You can go to any banks and ask them to prepare draft for USD $275 and can pay in CAD or they will debit your account. If you are applying for more than one please add $275 for each and make one draft only to save commission.

My wife and daughter are not applying at this time, so all I need to take with me is her landing paper right?? Do I need to carry any other documents for wife & child even though they are not applying? CGI's website is not clear about this and I want to be sure that I do not get any unpleasant surprises when I go there next week.

submitted OCI application, the place was super crowded. The lady at the front desk checking the applications was very courteous. A lot of people were complaining although I believe that if you have all documents in order, the process will be a smooth one. The only disadvantage of applying in person is the looooooong wait there.

Does anyone know how long does it usually take from here? How often will they update the status online?

all originals will be verified and returned then and there,draft to be made in favour of
"Consulate General of India, Toronto.
for two or more kids one draft is suffice
it takes exactly 15 days for the pio card to arrive
