Hi,
It is preferable that your husband who came here on a work permit seek a permanent employment from his employer. With proper approval from Service Canada and this letter you both can apply for PR status, as applying from 'with in Canada' class.
You can also obtain a letter from your employer for a permanent job with them which will carry a lot more weight when he encloses the same with his application. It will have more weight if it is the class of 'O' - 'A' or 'B' of the NOC.
You can renew your work permit, when your husband renews his work permit.
Please read this web page for more information: http://www1.servicecanada.gc.ca/en/workplaceskills/foreign_workers/pamphlet/tfwp_pamphlet.shtml
You have to meet all of their requirements and also undergo a Medical Check, just like a normal Immigrant. Being present here and having an arranged employment
will carry a lot of weight and simplifies the process.
Call CIC call center and obtain further guidance. also try and get printed materials for your reading.
Currently they are helping people on work permit to settle down as PR and you may contact the Immigrant help Centers listed in the CD web site.
Hope this helps.
Freddie.
