Dear All;

Can someone put ALL the plus (and minus) of OCI, barring hassel and cost attached; and compare with OCI?

The guy who accepts applications for OCI at the Toronto office of the Indian Consulate is a ***** - typical government clerk found in offices in India. He is not only very rude and unpleasant but gives everyone a run around. His name is Kuldip K. Abrol.

He won't even let you staple or unstaple something when you are with him and ask you to go out so that you have to join the line again. Then he pretends like you are jumping the queue or doing something wrong coming back to him. He rejected my pics and then asked me to get new pics. I spent 30 dollars on getting the new pics. After I came back, he said a photocopy of the landing paper was missing, so he sent me out again. He said, if I did not come back in 10 mins, he will not accept my application.

For a hefty fee of USD 275, people are treated like dirt and the processing time and service sucks big time.

Everyone who experiences bad service from him should send an email to the Consul General (Mrs. Preeti Saran) in Toronto on the behaviour of this man and also to the High Commission in Ottawa. If we just let go, and dont take any action, nothing changes. Even 10-15 emails would be enough to kick his *** somewhat.

There are two pathetic ugly men at the reception who have nothing under control. They wander around or just sit on a chair like they are not interested and they are overwhelmed with the work.

It is unfortunate that there is no one with administrative, operations and customer service skills in that office.

Hello fellow members,

I am also trying to understand the pros and cons of getting OCI.

If it has been explained in any other post, I am sorry to ask the Q here. I did run a search but couldn't find one.

Any ideas, suggestions ?

Thank you.

:)

All benefits of OCI are given at http://www.cgitoronto.ca" rel="nofollow">LINK under OCI, Benefits to OCI. Also you can go through mha.nic.in NRI/PIO/OCI comparative chart.

If children get OCI, OCI has be renewed each time a new passport is issued until age of 20.

I do not know any -ves of getting OCI.

Hi, Guys,

I've read all the discussions in this thread.

Do I need to be amongst the first 45 people in the queue to be accepted?

I phoned the consulate and a nice lady answered the phone and told me applying for OCI takes 2-4 months currently. So Instead I of applying for OCI I will do so for PIO and then later convert it to OCI for my daughter since we will be traveling in March.

Thanks to all the posters who included ingenious suggestions on printing pictures!

Cheers!
