Hi

We are planning to go for a day long short trip next week, anywhere within
1-2 hrs. driving distance from GTA. What would be the ideal place to spend
4-5 hrs, that has a good scenic beauty? (pls exclude Niagra!!)

I would suggest :
1. Niagra on the lake (Beautiful view of the lake + historic street lined up with historic buildings. There is even a Horse carriage ride service- for a fee. Entry is Free). It is off the QEW just 20 mins. before niagra. (My rating : 8/10)

2. Spencer Gorge - Off Hwy6 before Hamilton. There is a falls and view to the gorge/ valley below. May not be suitable in Winter. I hated this place but received rave reviews from all. (1/10)

3. Fort Erie - Nice view towards USA. By the Naiagra river, you can see both Canadians and Americans speeding on boats (4/10)

4. Kleinburg Village ( On Islington road , north of Major Mac.).
Historic Village with some shopping. Lots of historic buildings (5/10).
