Hello friends,
I know many people dont like such posts,Well its been 3.5 months in Toronto so far.I got a job in a call centre within 4 days of landing.I just got another job in Tech support on contract basis for 3 months @ 15$/hr,but yesterday the company told me they dont need me for 3 weeks since there is no work and it has been 2 weeks only since i joined.I mean 1 thing i have found here is its very difficult to get a job but even you get a job ur unsure of wat will happen tomorrow.Life seems to be difficult here and quality of life is not good according to me because even for small things one has to struggle like travelling is expensive,I dont know what future holds me here.Iam engineer+MBA and was doing a good job in india and was getting close to 50K PM.I left all that for canada.I just feel I will loose my career in India too if I dont make a move back soon because here in Canada I wonder if there is a word called "career".Here JOB is not for career its for survival.I feel that do I need to struggle like this especially when my parents are back home,I have a home in Mumbai in a prime area.Even if I get 20k job again I have no expenses like rent and stuff.Iam seriously confused on what to do..I know the final call has to be taken by me but I would like to have opnions...I dont deny that may be things might be better 1-2 yrs later thats what most desi's will say..but even after that is the life better in CANADA compared to INDIA or rather MUMBAI?I felt like iam leading a beggar's life here and in India I was a King.I would like to hear from my desi friends that they ask themselves are they really happy here?????Even those who r having home + 2 cars
Hi Vivek901,
I hear you loud and clear as a fellow Bombayite. You dont seem to want to hear about how things usually work out after a while so I wont go into that.
There is no answer to your question. But here are some questions to consider:
What was it that made you opt to immigrate? Are those reasons still relevant?
What will you lose if you stay back? What will you lose if you go back?
What will you gain if you stay back and see things through? What will you gain if you go back? (financially, emotionally, spiritually and mentally).
It really is your call but I do know that those who manage to make things work here are the ones who decided with complete determination that there was no turning back. My family lost a lot initially too but has gained since every which way. We are stronger as individuals and as a family for our struggles.
In empathy,

Vivek901, there are always two sides to the stories people can share.
I know of examples of folks who within months were moving from rent to home ownership, from temp positions to positions of seniority.
I also know of other folks who are basically lying to themselves and their families in India about their careers while doing relatively low skill or even no job here.
Mostly, people fall somewhere in the middle. I would say it takes 1-2 years on average to stabilize yourself beyond survival here.
People give a variety of reasons for staying on here despite struggle. Children's education and future, hope for better quality of life etc. All the reasons are right. It is a question of what one values most.
My cousin came afew years back, much like you have now. At the 3 month mark, he was at the same crossroads. He had invested a lot of money and 4-5 years in the process of getting here. He was truly disappointed by what he saw. He took a decision to go back. honestly, he has never looked back. he is doing phenomenally well back in India, is close to his parents, has a family now. What he does not have is this feeling of what might have been. He came, he saw, and he left. He has closure on this issue.
I know others who have tried for 1-2 years, are doing decently, but would have been doing much better back home. However, they believe it is too late, as the experience they have will make them weak in the Indian labour market. 10 years from now, they may be ahead in the game. Some are. But who can say for sure?
You have to decide whether you will have that closure if you go back. If you think then about that great job you might have got if you had stayed on for another few months, you have your answer there. If what you value is what you left behind, then I say take the next flight back to your home.
I sense you already know the answer, and are now hoping for a rational logic to support what your heart is telling you.
Life is short, my friend, every day is a gift. Good luck.

What was it that made you opt to immigrate?
ANS:From Childhood I was looking at my uncle and aunt and the way they used to spend when they came to india and I had a craze and fascination for going abroad especially US but US it was difficult to get immigration and student visa was also expensive affair. That was the primary reason..the craze..the mad craze inside me to go abroad and in the meantime as I grew up the craze was still there but logically if I think..India had changed a lot by that time and west was not as rosy as it used to but still I took a chance and here Iam finding that its not as good as I used to thing..so basically my reasons for coming here dont hold good anymore, only benefits are i feel more healthy here compared to mumbai..thats it...
What will i lose if I stay back.
There is only 1 life you get and only one parents...Iam going to lose the life that I can spend with them because they dont want to come here..I would lose my precious days which i could have spent with them..I realise their importance only after I have come here.
What will i gain is same what i would lose in case i stay here

I always advocate spending 3-4 yrs here and getting citizenship before moving back / wherever ..... You always have a permanent option this way and your experience in Canada and your resident status here is most likely to be recognized back home as well as elsewhere ...
3-4 yrs is not much for a permanent option in later life .
