Hello,
I have had many bad experience with desi regarding customer service. I don't know that you have mark it or not but I found that once we are settled in business then we don't care that much about customers and customer service.

For example, I went to the best Indian Chinesse Rest.( I don't want to give name and create contravorsy). I liked the taste of the food but not customer service. First of all, waiter didnt bother to fill up water jug and when we asked he came after 5 minutes with that water(PS:It wasnt that busy that time, 5 waiters were sitting to my next table and having fun) Then I order my bill. It was first time for me for that restaurant. The waiter came with bill and I hand over my visa card. Without saying anywords that waiter throw that card on frm that cover and said that "we dont accept visa under 25 dollars". I said "ok", where is the sign, and he show me the sign that they dont accept any cards including interac under 25. I understand but he could have said it differently that "sorry, we dont accept cards" but instead he acted like I did a big mistake. So, I talk to the manager and said your waiter is rude, he said ohh you should know we dont accept. So, finally waiter didnt get any tip:cry:

I had other bad exp too. But, I will write it next time.

I find that many desi businessman are careless and they dont importants to Customer.
Wat do you think guys?

It is 100% true back in India, specifically in Bangalore where customer service is a non-existant, alien phenomenon. Bring up that term at a retail store for example and you instantly get the "huh?" look like you said something that they were so not ready for or never heard about.

That said, I have not had many such bad experiences here. A few isolated incidents, yes. But not enough to generalize that desi customer service is bad here in the GTA.

All those isolated incidents that have irked me to death, I have named them and shamed them. And why not? What's so controversial about that? State an opinion and describe your experience. Personally, I'd appreciate the candour.

My experience at Asian Bazar. I bought poha from Asian and failed to observe pack was full of kala kida. So after reaching home, about 30 km from Asian Bazar I did observe pack was full of kida. I called Asian bazar and spoke to the owner and requested him to get a new pack delivered to my place personally or post. He replied that I should come to pick up another pack as the deal of Poha is too cheap to take all the trouble. I could not understand the part that for $2 bucks he cannot provide service however he expects me to drive 30 KM for the replacement pack. During our argument who come to pick the pack I happen to mention reporting to food inspector. This did not bother him, infact I was advised to go ahead and make my complaint. GTA is no different from living in any part of our home country. Business man are confident they can buy their way.
That is the customer service level we should be expecting while dealing with a desi business place.

Second exp..at Sai lila khaman,
It was month ago when everybody was interested to watch Cricket. When I went there, instead of asking or helping me that old man was busy in watching tele vision. I asked that I dont want more Chiili in my Khaman and he looked at me and said "Huh wat did you say" but he was interested in cricket. I thought let it go but he didnt listen to me. and they dont say ever please...
they would say.."5 dollars"
no--thanks,sorry or please.
I guess we should learn something from white people. We should be more welcoming to our customer

Charlie,
What you asked for is too much. I agree that Desi's are poor is customer service but we do need to use common sense too. Desi grocery store owners donot make much profit. I have seen so many people (incl. myself) snacking the cashews or the pista's. Many desi store owners are either uneducated or people who could not get a decent job in Canada and their last resort is this kind of business whereby they can atleast get by.
How could the store owner either deleiver and post the Poha when it was just $2 or so worth. He is not owning a walmart here. His offer was more than fair. come by or when you come the next time, exchange your old poha for a new one. We need to be fair. Try to put yourself in the Desi store owner's shoes.

I agree TK. But he didnt take that matter seriously. That grocery store owner could be in big problem if that Poha you give it to Food ins. It is true that desis are doing business at very low margin but does it mean to sell items with insects? Would you eat that stuff at low price?

I am surprised to find that many food products sold in Canada carry nutrition label but no manufacturing or expiry date. So the item that you pick up from the store shelf could possibly few months to few years old. Many items imported from India carry only importer's name and no date of manufacturing or expiry unless it was stamped in India itself.

Foodstuff going on sale in Indian stores is mostly old stuff.
