The term " Kanya-Daan" would also bring down the inflated ego of the Groom as "Daan" means charity, and taker is the poorer of the two.
When the system started _ thousand years ago, , it would be the first 'encounter' for the newly weds, resulting in either the 'Touch Therapy' calming their nervous minds, or a fun-filled reaction shot for the keen viewers.
Some 'daring' couples would even exchange rings below the cloth on their hands.
...... don't remember any one changing the glance and saying " Panja Ladaoge ?"
