apsingla ,
Thank you for the wonderful information.
What about the credit checks and signing leases with apt land lords/leasing offices. We do not have any credit history as we are yet to begin our new life in Canada as PRs. Are we allowed to sign the lease agreements for renting apartments and do they run credit checks for using public utility services like Gas & electricity and phone. Can you please educate us how this works?
What about Bournaby. Some one was saying that, the area is very good with lots of indian community around. Is it too expensive to rent an apt in that area.
Thanks,
MS.
Yes, they will run credit check and you can sign leases. You can get 1 BR apt. in approx. $800 - $1000 in average location (surrey will be little cheaper). Indians are everywhere in Greater Vancouver. Even if you don't have credit history here, it is likely that you can sign lease for apartment (if there is nothing -ve in credit history), get public utility services, etc. Phone companies may ask you to deposit some money. Open a bank account.
Burnaby is also ok and try to find a place near the place of your work. You can find more information about vancouver by searching charcha section.

I have no idea about Burnby. My brother live in Surrey and work in Vancouver so those are the only two places I have a little idea about.
Surrey is the cheapest for sure, but for Career in IT I believe you should try something closer to Vancouver downdown.
If you want to live closer to Desi community and work in Vancouver then choose a place closer to Skytrain Station, Park and Go kind of deal. Parking for the whole day (24 hrs) is $2.
I believe monthly pass would be cheaper.
it's fast and you can reach your workplace in 15-20 min.
Friends,
Thank you very much for sharing the info.

Friends,
BTW, what about Vernon.I am exploring some job opprtunities in Vernon area,I guess it is western Vancouver.
Are there any Indian communities in and around Vernon area and how far it is from Vancouver or BBY,Surrey. What is the cost of living. Can I take sky train to Vernon?
I appreciate your inputs.
MS.
Please search the net for information about Vernon. You can visit http://www.vernon.ca" rel="nofollow">LINK for more information about the city.
Vernon is almost 450 Km from Vancouver. If you have a job, then only move to Vernon. If you are looking for a job and don't intend to buy car immediately, my personal opinion is you should look to stay in Vancouver or Burnaby. You can move later, wherever you want.
Visit website http://www.translink.bc.ca" rel="nofollow">LINK for more information about Greater Vancouver transit.
