Freddie
I am sure you are wrong this time. Check this CBSA brochure @ http://www.cbsa-asfc.gc.ca/publications/pub/bsf5052-eng.pdf
All they say is if you get more than $10,000 in any form, you have to declare it. It is a different story as to why would someone carry so much cash in the first place. But the point is you can carry but you have to declare it.

Dear Freddie,
In the post below you have mentioned ,max $ 10,000. My question; is it so even if one DECLARES whatever excess to 10,000 is carried at first landing, or is it mandatory that one CANNOT carry more than that in cash ? I am confused.

They say that the Max Cash is $10,000.00.
But you can bring in what ever you want, but in other negotiable securities. But the Cash portion is 10,000 only. So, be guided by it.
MAKE SURE YOU DECLARE WHAT EVER THAT YOU ARE BRINGING, Just in case you forget and they search you and find more money on you. It will become a disaster.
Hence bring in just what ever you think you find comfortable to carry it on person.
The balance can be transferred through Bank transfers.
Hope this answers your question.
Freddie.

Do you know that 90% of the currency you and me carry are tainted with drugs, even if it looks brand new? Go to any of the border service agency (CBSA) shows and get any bill even a brand new looking one out of your wallet. They will put it through their electronic sniffer and voila', your dollar bill will tell them you are peddling dope.! OR you are a user. Are you? This machine not only tells them what it is, it also tells them from which corner of the world the product is from!!!

When I say you please don't carry any more than $9999 on you, I mean that. You are just a dollar away from loosing all of the marbles. You better stay under that limit. (Even then the currency that you are bringing, other than the travelers' cheques, All of them are tainted with drugs) So watch out.
I don't want to put scare into you. But I rather be safe than sorry.
If there are no guts, then there is no glory.! Right? You are right.
This board is currently monitored. (By Whom?, who cares!) Hey Canadian Desi ... You are tops.
So, I am backing off from this one, let the sniffers take over.
Freddie.
