I will be carrying some precious jewellery to India. This being my first time I request help from fellow desis on the following:
1. Is it safe to keep it in my suitcase or handbag?
2. Is there a maximum limit of how much I can carry.
3. Will I have to carry the bills.
4. Do I have to declare.
5. Any other advises please ?

1: Better keep it in your handbag
2: If its your first landing, there is no limit
3: No, its not necessary. (if its your first landing as immigrant)
4: No, you dont have to declare (if its your first landing as immigrant)
5: Take as much as you can, no duty on your first landing as an immigrant
Sorry, I read the word "to india" after posting. My post relates to a situation when you are entering Canada as an immigrant.
I am not deleting the post, as it might help some other readers.

On ur way back, If u re-import those/any jewellery back to Canada, u dont want to pay duty, since u bought it in this country and have already paid the taxes when u bought it
, So ur bill will serve as a proof there. If u lost the bill , u can get a color photocopy of ur jewellery, and have a canadian jeweller appraise it. He will stamp the photocopy, and that may serve as a proof that u bought it here, but i have heard some custom officals deny this as a valid proof, and some who allowed it. So it may depend on which side of the bed u wake up that day
