Cell phone in US

I have a prepaid cell with Virgin. According to the virgin website this would not work in US. Only the monthly plans work in the US.

Any suggestions on what to do for a temp cell phone.? What do you do in case of an emergency on the highway? Can we buy a prepaid in US?

Hi Guys

I just spoke to virgin and they told me to buy a virgin (US) prepaid airtime card for $15 or $20 and you get a phone free with that!!

you can buy prepaid phones in Walmart as well ( around 20/30 USD ) ... after that you can throw it away .

or if you have an unlocked GSM you can get a prepaid monthly plan from T-Mobile ( around 35 plus tax ) ... of course you will need a US address for this .

Hello,

Even though you are not allowed to use your phone in USA, 911 service still work over there.Check with virgin mobility customer service.611 and 911 service are work even for deactivated phone.

That's not of much use. For road side assistance and other non-life threatening emergencies, you cannot call 911
