I have a question. When paying a fee for Citizenship application, which one is applicable? Is it: Adult Grant and right of Citizenship for person 18 years and older ($200)? Yes, I am older than 18 years.

What difference does it make to get the citizenship certificate? Don't they provide any piece of paper when Citizenship is granted? So, what's the difference please?

Just wanted to confirm if there's any other set of fee that one needs to pay when applying for citizenship?

For a while the Government operated on a different set of internal rules. At that time a lot of things were absorbed by the departments or by the funding of such infrastructures, all of it by the Government funds.
A few things got changed as time passed by. They started to make different set of rules. One of them was user pay. That afforded them additional funds for the upkeep and maintenance.
Some of this came about because of the audits conducted by the Government. It just happens that they are charging one half of the fees towards the up keep and the other for the Adult grant.
It is fair that they get to keep a hundred dollars from the applicant for him not doing his work in the submission, or checking to see he did. You surely get the other half for which they did not provide you with the Citizenship Certificate, when they refund it. If you did not qualify.
If the process goes through and they provide you with a Citizenship, the matter moves up to the next level in their echelons. The scrutiny that takes place prior to the issue costs them a whopping lot. It is smooth sailing for the Citizen and the Government from (thence forth) then on wards. Now it enters another process, which you do not come to know. Now they watch out for all of the Canadian Citizens in their data base. Statistics do get changed, liabilities are changed and the pension and OAS system gets alerted. You enter into the fixed base in the CRA and your kids life gets rooted into Canada.

Now all you have to do is plant them right and fertilize. They will grow like ....
Like the way you dreamed that they would.

Now you know why the Government is no longer generous to every one. It costs money to run it and you provide them with your share and then some.

Thank you Freddie. However, unfortunately my inquiry was not about questioning the way the Canadian Govt. charges the fees. I am all for it, if it is going towards providing the services. I am of the view that nothing in life is free.

Actually, I am filing up my citizenship application and while paying the fee, I came across few options. I was unsure of which one I fall in. Again, to make it more precise/simple, my questions to fellow Desi's are as follow:

1. Is the Citizenship application fee $200, which is the first option (Adult Grant and right of Citizenship for person 18 years and older)

2. What are the pros and cons of getting the Citizenship certificate? Do I need it? What if I don't opt to get the certificate? I am not sure of this one at all. Please clarify if anyone may.

The fee is $200 and that's what you pick in the form. You don't need a cert since you will be given one at the oath.

The certs option is for those who need one separately later on as a replacement or something else.
