Hello Guys
I am little bit confused and hopes you guys can come forward with your valuable inputs.
I am married, have 3 kids and working in Middle East since last 08 yrs.
I got my PR last year and I am confused if I should leave my job and move to Canada. I am not a technical guy.I am a plain Graduate and working in Sales here.
My wife is insisting me to stay back in Middle East and she will move to Canada with the kids and after 3 yrs once she and the children have the Canadian passports, they will return back to me.This way I will be able to keep my job as well as my family will have the Canadian passport.Later on my wife can sponser me any time later.
Three year is a very long time and I am too much confused,if Ishould take this step.
If I go ahead with it,which is the best place in GTA for a single lady with 3 children( 2 Girls aged 10 & 6 and 1 boy 4 yrs ).i want them my family to live in a safe neighbourhood, with easy access to school, grosery and transport.
Should I take a house on rent or should I buy one. Here in Middle East I can get a loan of around CAD 150000 so I feel I can buy a small cond for my family(this way I will save on rent)
Is schooling 100% free in Canada(no hidden costs)
How much should I send for my family so that they can live comfortably ie if they are living in rented accomodation and in 2nd case if they have there own home.
Please advice me and guide me.
in my humble opinion, it is not worth living away from your family for 3 years just to get Canadian citizenship.
in fact it will take another 1.5 years after the 3 years of residency to get citizenship and passport.
so you are looking at about 5 years end to end.
even then, you are not getting citizenship only your family is.
there will be another process for them to sponsor you, you will spend another 4.5 years and then get citizenship.
so total duration of this plan is about 10 years.
to get your citizenship yu have to move here and get a job anyway.
why not you do that now rather than wait 5 years?
if you have to get a job here anyway get it now.
i don't know about your field so can not comment on job prospects.

Rocket:
Proceed with your wife's idea which is good and makes lot of sense.
Let your family move to Canada .... Buy a small property and try to come frequently till they become citizens .... three years are not a very long period if do in that way and passes just like that.
There are lot safe neighborhoods where you wife and kids can live happily. Make sure they live in a place that is very close to subway, school and regular groceries .
We have very good people in our forum who can give you more inputs whenever you need.
Plan a move after March so that severe winter will be over.

I'll offer a true example:
One of my friends in Windsor moved to Canada few years ago. The guy stayed back in Dubai and was working there while his wife and two daughters moved to Canada and lived for 3 or so years by themselves. The women searched for a home, bought a home, did few handy man type of work by themselves, painted their home, got themselves drivers license, drove around, etc, etc.
So, depending on the personality and nature of the individuals, it is possible. If the family is naturally dependent on the husband, then it would be unwise to leave them to fend for themselves.
In any case, the decision can be made only by you.

If you want Canada just a place holder then why GTA or Vancouver. There are lot of nice, safe and cheaper place in country for doing same and you can save money.
Nothing is free in Canada or anywhere and depends upon your tax bracket too. It's better to rent at least few months and understand community, city, traffic, school, real estate market, credit history before jumping buying.
