Kindly advise what the time period is for sponsorship of spouse from the Dominican Republic. Is there a way to contact the immigration office to find out the status of application? Please advise. Thanks.
Normally it takes about 24 months. Please see:

This is a computerized system which keeps track of each and every file submitted through the worldwide network of CIC offices. This system records every bit of information you provide. It is like an electronic identity and existence of the applicant.
This is very helpful when anything abnormal like - delay in reply, lack of updation, taking long time in processing happens. It is also helpful when you are selected for the interview. You can know the probable cause of interview requirement by obtaining the CAIPS notes.
In brief, CAIPS notes is an electronic record of your file and contents of the file. You can get all of the information in your files. But you need a few items to access your files.
You can browse "www.caipsnotes.com" or hit this link in your browser:

Hope this helps a little.
Freddie.
Thanks for the info. Just got an e-mail from CIC DR to request husband's passport. Does this mean the Visa will be issued once they receive the passport? If so, how soon?
The health and criminal records will expire in mid Nov. Is it true that the spouse should land in Canada before the documents expiry date? Please advise. Thanks again.
