What he means is " Grass is green on the other side of the fence "

" Door ke dhol suhaveney" literally means the sound of drums are soothing to the ears if heard from far and conversely if the drum is heard when it is near to you then the sound is not very pleasent.

Trust this helps.

Reason # 1 - They prefer whites (the Brits have cornered all the good jobs there)
Reason # 2 - Even if you get selected, you will be amazed to find out (later on!!) that you were offered a much lower pay scale than what would have been offered normally.

Just an example -
Indian waiter working in 5 star hotel - Pay AED700 + Food and Accom
Filipino waiter working in the same hotel - Pay AED1000 + Food and Accom
Syrian waiter working in the same hotel - Pay 1400 + Food and Accom

You see what I mean, this is just an example, mind you and no way I want to dissuade you from your goals.

But be prepared for job discrimination !

Have you heard stories about the Brit who worked as a garbage collector in his home town landing a plum job in ME because he is w----?? Its true !!

The whole of ME is reeling under recession now and chances of you finding a job there are slim.

But for starters >>> register on bayt.com

This is correct.

Salaries are based on Nationalaity of individuals.

I would put it in order :

1) Whites
2) Local Arabs
3) Expat Arabs
4) Philipinos
5) Indians
6) Pakistanis
7) Srilankans
8) Bangla deshis.

The salary of white to Indian for a particular position will be 2:1

Trade labours suffer a lot as they are not paid properly.

Cheating is common with many companies. Some companies pay salaries for labours after 3 to 4 months. Even staff are not guaranteed to take their salaries every month.

Staff or labour, if they not happy with the company, can not transfer thier visas easily to another company, there will be ban on taking new work permit.

Once terminated by the employer, or the employee wishes to terminate himself, most probably the employee will have to go back to native country as there will be no entry stamp in the passport.

The expat employees should be prepared to work under relatively in experienced and stupid bosses.

Expenses are more when compared to Canada.... Apartment Rents are HUGE...
Difficult to find an apartment.... Education is costlier... for poor standard of education.

Employees can not fight and get their rights. There is no right to Expat community. This may not be the case for Expat arabs !

On the positive side :

One can drive Nice car.... Mrcedez, BMW, Lexuus... cheaper as there are no taxes. Petrol is cheaper....

Large Indian community, so gathering ...social life will be good.

Decent savings will there.

Close to India, so travel is chaper, but bear in mind one can not leave the country whith out employer approval even during week ends. If a person is found to be absent for consecutive 7 or more days, employer has the right to complain to labour ministry and hell a lot of problembs.......

Thanks NM.
Coming from UAE, you have explained the advantages of UAE in particular. UAE is one of the countries where people leave on Wednesday night to India and come to UAE on Friday night and come to office on sat. (or as per the holiday schedule of the week that the company follows).

True. But this is not applicable for every one.

Higly placed employees can have the Passports themselves, the companies do believe they will not run away from responsibilities. In this case, they can leave the country on week ends and come back after holidays.

I have even come to canada once w/o informing company.

But normaly the passports of staff, labours will be held by the company so that they can not run away from Country after doing mischief, fraud etc.

If the PP's are with Employees, they can do forgery within the company, run away from the country and hide somewhere in UP, MP. Nothing can be done in this case.

1) What happens if you hold Canadian citizenship, whilst you are Indian/Pakistani origin.

Are you on the same league as a Indian/Pakistani from India/Pakistan?

2) Does the government not seek to promote equality under the law through legislative action?

Visa ban is applicable for any Nationality once if they decide to leave the company for any reason. Joining with another company is almost ruled out unless you have been in good relation with the company and they dont need you.

Laws and rules are written to support Locals first and then Expatriate arabs.

Definitly it will not support Indians or Pakistanis.

One thing you must bear in mind... You are a hired on "work permit" and sponsored by a company to work with them under certain terms and conditions.

You don't hold PR or not a citizen to ask for equality.

You are not paying taxes !

I wonder what is the benefit of earning an extra 4000$ p/month if you are paying it in monthly rent?
