My sponsorship case got cleared in Canada in a month, after which the sponsorship was sent to New Delhi High Commission for processing of permanent residency. It has been seven weeks since my spouse has submitted his passport to the High Commission. Since then we have not heard anything from them. I would appreciate if anyone would give me an estimated time period for my spouse to get back his passport stamped with PR.

Hi!
Appreciate your help Freddie.
After enquiring with New Delhi, my spouse had received a response that his file is pending background checks and they cant give me any estimated time on how much longer it would take. Their exact reponse follows:
"Please note that further processing of your application is pending completion of background checks. There is no action required on your part at the time. It is not possible to give you any timeline for completion of these checks and we will provide you with further instructions after you meet all requirements for a visa issuance"
Therefore, I was wondering how much longer it is going to take from here on. Considering my spouse has already submitted the police and medical clearance.
Cheers!
There is anecdotal evidence that spouse sponsorship cases from Punjab undergo greater scrutiny due to the high number of fraud marriages or marriages for convenience.
Since, you have completed all the paperwork from your side, it's a waiting game for you.
My case has been assigned to an immigration officer and the last time, I contacted him, I was told that my case is still pending background checks. I was wondering how much estimated time it takes from here on? What do they really check while doing background checks, as I have already submitted by medical and police clearance?
Also would it cause any issues if I write to them often just to get information, I hope contacting them often won't backfire?
Thanks for your help guys!
